Yesterday after dinner I took my sister, my 24 year old daughter, my 35 year old nephew and his three children, daughters 16 and 9 and son 11 to my club for some shooting. All but the two youngest have some but limited shooting experience.

I paired them up and gave a good safety and gun operation talk. I had my CZ75BD with the Kadet Kit, a Ruger .22 and my SA Stainless with the Ciener .22 conversion. It was a blast. I wasn't shooting, just watching for safety issues and giving some shooting tips. They really started sending lead down range.

After getting them settled in I went down the bench and set up my 9mm Sig 226 and a couple .45s. My daughter and my 16 year old grandniece wanted to shoot the bigger guns. They both liked the 9mm. My daughter has shot my light loads in the 45 before, and got to shooting the Les Baer PII. She thought the grips were too rough. She liked the Ed Brown Exec target grips much better. She said she liked the trigger better too. Just like her mom to gravitate to the higher price products. I loaded and she shot through about 100 rounds.

My grandniece thought the 45 would be too much, but after seeing Beth shooting decided to give it a try. She's bigger than my daughter, and pretty strong. I had to get her situated with grip and stance to deal with the recoil. she settled in and started shooting. She went through 200 rounds as fast as I could load. I had four mags out and could just keep ahead of her with my speed loader. She was in the zone. Very good shooting. Regularly hitting 9 1/2 steel plates out to 20 yards. It was really nice to hear her say to my nephew, "Dad, I think I want and Ed Brown for my birthday". He'll never forgive me for that!

It's fun to get that next generation hooked on shooting. We had one safety glitch when the youngest finished up a mag and turned around far enough to break the 180 degree rule. She did it so fast her grandmother wasn't able to react. I was right there in a second and we had a very serious talk. She isn't used to having someone come down on her like I did and wanted to give a little argument until I asked everyone there to tell her how they felt about anyone not being safe with a gun. She got a real good idea real quick that I wasn't the only one upset. We went over the reason why we always have our trigger finger on the frame pointing down the barrel if we are not shooting the gun, and how we never point our finger anywhere but down range. I told her to put the gun back down on the bench before she tried to talk to anyone about her shooting. She did real well after that, and started watching the others to see if they were being safe as well.

My daughter wants to go out today to shoot and wants to go to the speed steel match on Saturday. I just love girls with guns.
