well back in october my dog greta died after 10 years (she was 4 when we got her) and it was really hard on us so about 2 weeks later i got a "blonde lab" puppy from some guy and his wife that lived in a little trailer with a fairly large kennel behind it.

they had mostly hounds but in one of the larger pens they had about 7 puppys, 2 solid black, 3 black and white, and 2 blondes with white chests, well i grabbed the pick of the blondes even though they looked more like golden retrievers than labs, and named her maggie.

shes a good dog but really hyper she fetches really well but tries to play anything rather than drop it when i tell her to now that shes about 4 months old she seams to have some kind of hound in her from the look of her face and the sound of her bark

it got me thinking.......could she run deer for me? she doesnt have a really soft mouth like our last lab and has a bark alot like the hounds my friends use for deer

is there anyway to know what she is other than contacting the people? what are some ways to get her to chase deer by myself?

Believe it or not, you can have your dog's DNA tested for genetic markers that indicate breeds.

She's 4 months old, and probably thinks keepaway is more fun than just bringing stuff back right away. Our purebred hunting dog with a bunch of champions in his lineage does, too. Nothing to worry about; you will have to train your dog, however.:)

Catch-22: a good hunting dog that will go out looking for deer, birds, or whatever, has to be independent, not clingy. Thus, they require training, and skilled training that goes beyond just teaching them to sit and wait for a treat.

Sounds like she could do a lot of things, though. Good luck!
