Helped my father empty out his storage unit into his new apartment. Rolling in the back of the truck bed was a receiver, which turns out to be a Stevens and marked only with 5100. Did just a little research with that.
It's ugly but not particularly pitted. From what I can tell everything works still. Dad said the barrel, however, was lousy with rust inside and out. He yanked that off and tossed it in the dumpster at the storage place, and was planning to toss the receiver elsewhere. He didn't want someone trying to piece it together and either up to no good or using it and blowing the barrel off in their face.
He's not a sentimental guy but I felt like it hurt to get rid of the pheasant gun he'd used from his young adulthood until we moved. So my plan is to try and find a barrel, pretty it up, and offer it back.
Anyway. He said it was a 16gauge. No markings to confirm, but it was his favorite. Anywhere to measureme on the receiver to check?
Are there any reliable sources for this? I already checked Numrich, and figure a new barrel would be both expensive and look out of place. Does another model use the same barrels? Does it just come down to keeping an eye on Gunbroker?
