I am going to be traveling from GA to SC this weekend. I am familiar enough with SC laws to know that you have to keep the gun and ammo separate and the gun must be unloaded and kept in a locked container not immediately accessible. I have an SUV, so I don't have a trunk. I was wondering if one of the plastic carrying cases provided by the manufacturer that the gun was in when I purchased it would suffice if it had a padlock on the handle.

Any thoughts

You can transport your loaded handgun in a closed glove box or console without a permit; they do not need to be locked, only closed. You do not need to separate the gun and ammo. You can carry concealed if you have a Ga. resident permit and notify an LEO if he asks for ID.

That's what I was going to say. No open carry though.

Best re-familiarize yourself then, because that is incorrect. You can keep it loaded in an unlocked, closed glove compartment, among other places. FWIW, you're better off getting, or at least confirming this sort of information with the source, rather than with random strangers. Here you go: https://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t16c023.php
