I keep looking at these, anyone out there using one?

I know there are other mfr's out there, I know Kimber rimfires and conversions are out there also. But, there are a lot of Marvel units used in serivce competition. Marvel seems to be dedicated to the conversion units only, so it would seem to me the this specialization would raise the quality and consistantcy.

Any info concerning:

1 reliability

2 customer service

3 fit and finish

is appreciated, thanks.

Reliability of my Unit 2 initially required high velocity to function properly using the regular springs. Match grade wouldn't cycle at the start. The upper eventually loosened up to the point of allowing match grade to run OK. Mine is on top of an AMT/IAI lower formerly a long slide Javalina. Kimber mags work.

Havn't had to use customer service but have talked to the owner (don't recall his name off hand) at shows. Seemed nice enough.

Fit and finish are very good, IMO, to tthe point where I'd hate to see it scrached up or dinged. I plan on getting the long slide model (which is admittedly by the owner not very well advertised on the website).

I've had a AA kit for a Glock, and a Ciener kit for a 1911, both had a break-in period of a few hundred rounds before they loosened up a bit and quit choking. The Ciener works with just about anything but definitely prefers Stingers and Velocitors. I've never tried a Marvel.

Marvel works great.

I bought a lightly used Marvel about a 3000 rounds ago. I use it for Bullseye shooting with CCI Standard velocity rounds. It had the adjustable rear sight rib and I replaced it with a weaver rail, Ultra Dot. It is very accurate and reliable. Maybe ten FTF in 3K rounds. I use a GI toothbrush on the breach and slide face after sixty rounds and two/three drops of CLP.
My 1911 lower is a lightly modified Springsfield, with a reduced power hammer/manspring.
Magazines are a mixture of Colt and modified Ciener mags that have had the slide lock tab removed.

Unit 2

I've got a unit 2 on an Essex frame......runs great. I get very positive functioning and great accuracy with CCI minimag, and Kimber mags. I alos took advantage of Marvels removable front sight, and replaced it with a more narrow front blade, which I really like.

Great piece of kit......I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

I have a gen 1 unit with both the iron sights and the Weaver rail and switch back and forth without loss of zero which speaks volumes for the workmanship. Mine was stiff for the first 500 rounds or so and then went "normal". The best thing about mine is that it actually likes about 90% of the standard velocity stuff out there and gives me fantastic groups. I keep it on a dedicated Essex lower that I built from scratch.

IMO, it's better than ANY other conversion unit.....

More good info, thanks.

Now... if only Santa would drop off a bit of cash. ;)
