G'day!

Has anyone had any luck with speer bullets in their 7-08? I just randomly created a load using

47 grains of H4350 (2209)
145 Speer BTSP
Rem brass and Federal primer.

Don't load 7-08, but I like Speer bullets in general. They've been easy to find good loads for me across several calibers. Expect your btsps to be on the rapid expansion end of things based on my experience with 150 .308btsp in. 308 and. 300sav. Step up to the hot core or GS if you desire a tougher bullet. I use both to great effect in. 280Rem.

I probly wont be driving these to god like speeds, just sub 2800 and for shots out to 300 yards on big deer.

Yes I use the Speer 145 gr. flat base hot core with varget in my wife's 7mm-08 Ruger American compact and my tc compass.

You mention large deer. This is what I hunt. Whitetail on the Northern end of their range where they attain maximum size. A 200 lb. Animal is fairly common. I found the btsp at 308 speeds a bit soft at shorter range. The hot core and GS in a lighter weight about perfect.

Yes, my PSA AR-10 loves Speer 115 gr SPR HP on top of 43 grains for Varget.

Your load will do fine!
I’ve used 139-150gr bullets and H4350, RL17, and IMR4350 are my favorites, in that order.
Your load will be “warm”, but won’t hurt anything either. I’ve gotten better accuracy at 45.0gr, and bullet seated just off the lands.

Also heard good things about speer bullets, about to start loading them for lever guns.

My understanding is that you would want the Flat Base bullets as the Boat Tails are built to expand easier/less robust. I think I read that from speer somewhere.
Of course that may depend on your definition of "Big" deer

I've used the HotCors for years in several calibers. I was bummed out when they dropped the 120Gr HC in .264. Shot many deer with the 130 gr in a 270.
