So my Cabelas points are getting up there. I'm looking to get a new gun. I'm at the point where my needs are pretty well covered. I've even invented some "needs". So this will be just a fun gun. I'm looking at a Ruger 1911 10mm, also been looking at the Kimber Camp Guard in 10mm. A Henry lever gun in 45 colt has also got my attention. As well as a Uberti in 45 colt with 3 3/4" barrel and bird head grips. So let's here some opinions on my ideas or feel free to throw out your own.

I just used my Cabelas points on a new 10MM myself, so I’m with you on the 10MM thoughts. I was also contemplating a lever gun, but the handgun won in the end.

I’ve shot the Ruger and it’s a nice gun.

good luck whichever direction you go.

The Henry doesn't disappoint IMO. Shot lots of .38/357 out the golden boy, dang nice gun. And the birdshead and short barrel makes a nice belly gun for carry comfort around the property if you don't need a high cap or D/A.

You have really good taste but IMO this isn't the time for buying fun guns. Ammo, mags, ammo, mags, ammo, mags, doubles of what you prefer, triples are what you prefer, ammo, mags, ammo. Not as much fun as a Henry or a SAA but boring purchases are usually the right one. I been dreaming of new rifles since the last one I bought was 2012 (yeah I know, but I'm building a home and you should see what plywood costs) but ammo and mags make more sense.

Well, if it were me...I no longer own any 1911s and I don’t own a 10mm but the Kimber Camp Guard just looks too cool. Even though I love Cowboy guns I would have to go with the Kimber.

While I love a good 1911, I like the Sig P220 in 10mm better.

Sig P210 would be cool.
A CZ Shadow 2 or TSO would be wonderful, but I don't think they carry them any more.
Sig P226 Legion SAO is another fun idea.
I'm really eager to try the new Dan Wesson DWX Compact.

If you go with a 10mm, and you reload, I'd pick up the gun and dies.

.....iffin I wanted a 10MM in a 1911 platform, I'd go with a Colt Delta Elite, same money as the Kimber.

Everyone making suggestions needs to keep one thing in mind...the OP is spending Cabelas rewards points, so making suggestions that are not available at Cabelas is not taking that main point into account.

That’s true. However the used gun section often includes guns Cabelas doesn’t carry in their normal lineup.

Wish I had problems like this. Those are all really sweet guns. Pick the one you want the most, cant go wrong with any of them.

Something else for consideration, and I like the idea of catching up on essentials that fall through the cracks, but Cabela’s has their Gun Library where many unique firearms often pass through.

I’ve entertained thoughts of many purchases for the coming year, most with a pragmatic approach. For me I think I’m falling back to shoring up what’s already here, but if I had to dream up a purchase it would be something to test myself with. Finding something beyond the comfort zone to teach me what I don’t know; a long range rig, competition target pistol, or perhaps something as simple as an unfamiliar model (like an AK in my case).

No reason expanding your footprint couldn’t also come with lessons. Those lessons sometimes extend the excitement of a new purchase well beyond a first range day. Those are the niches I find more satisfying than buying what I already own, like learning the capabilities of a 4x4 or the handling of a sports car.

Fair point.

We’ve had the Cabelas card since 2008. Never paid a penny in interest, and I’ve used it for a few guns and expensive accessories.

my strategy these days when I have a bunch of rewards built up is to bide my time and watch the sales. Sometimes they have decent prices during promotions.

I rarely shop Cabelas anymore, as their prices seem to have jumped since becoming Bass Pro. But I like the customer service we get from the card, so we keep using it. When I call, I almost always get someone in Nebraska! Love that!

FME, every Cabelas I have been in, has their own selection of firearms, and it differs from what they show available online. So, without knowing the exact inventory of the OPs local store, it's virtually impossible to suggest anything other than what is on the Cabela's general website. On that website, I did not see where there had the Kimber Camp Guard available, even tho they had other Kimber 10mm 1911 variants.

These types of "what gun should I get" threads are always what the other posters would get in a similar scenario. It has little or nuttin' to do with the OP. Mostly others just giving their wish-list or validating a previous choice of their own. Never understood why a person would choose a gun just because some other random stranger on the internet is taken with it. Consider maybe, if there is enough other pertinent info given. This I have yet to see here. The OP has given his choices that are wide, on both platform and price. $500 to $1200 and a 1911 platform, a lever rifle and a cowboy replica. Seems to me for $1200 the OP could get both the Henry and the Uberti as opposed the the Kimber. Or the Ruger and the Uberti instead of the Kimber. Two fun guns instead of one? IMHO, my firearms are mine for two reasons......either I inherited them or I bought them because I wanted them. Even those I bought for myself I bought with the idea that someday someone would be inheriting them so I went with something my heirs would be happy to inherit. Last thing I thought of was getting something some random stranger wanted. This is why I always chuckle when I see these types of threads, cause in the long run, the OP generally gets what he was originally thinking of anyway. It seems the thread is more about bragging about getting a new firearm and a thread about what to get, kinda prolongs the bragging. Not that I see anything wrong with bragging about a new gun, we all do it. Kinda half of what gun forums are all about.

Yeah, definitely that. And meaning no disrespect.

Plus I just like to talk about guns and listen to other people talk about guns.

I’ve started threads of a similar ilk always hoping something interesting gets pitched which was otherwise off my radar. Seeing what some of y’all shoot, and how well, I’ll never have bragging rights (and I’m ok with that too).

Why not use the points to get better rifle optics, or to buy an optics-ready pistol and see how you like that kind of setup?

Yeah, definitely that. And meaning no disrespect.

I meant none either. One thing I love as much as buying a new gun is shopping for them. Similar to looking at new cars. For me, the sale is almost anti-climatic compared to the excitement and anticipation when searching for something. Not a buyers remorse thing, just knowing, that for me at least, it ain't gonna happen again for a while.

I wish you luck with your endeavor, not everyday we get to buy something as expensive as a quality gun just for fun. I hafta admit, I'm a tad jealous......

Yeah that pretty much mirrors my current mindset too. Things changed. Don’t like it.

I just save my points now and use them on new guns. Don’t shop there much. Don’t pay interest. So they are basically giving me free guns. $3000 worth at this point, with another $630 worth on tap.

I'm set up to reload for 10mm and 45 colt. So the ammo wont be a problem there. Ive been thinking a lever gun would be fun for quite some time now. So I'm leaning towards that, but I really enjoy handguns.

I do look at the guns in the library every time I'm in. There was a cool little 16 ga SxS that I almost took home the other day, but it had some really bad pitting in one of the barrels. I think it was Serbian made.

So here's an outside the box suggestion. I bought a Kriss Carbine in 10mm and it's a lot of fun once you figure out how to have it not beat up your cheek.

https://www.cabelas.com/product/KRISS-USA-VECTOR-GEN-II-CRB-CENTERFIRE-RIFLE/2635697.uts?slotId=0

If you like Glocks, it uses the G29 magazines, and Kriss now makes 33 round extensions. It's big, it's heavy, but it's fun. Chrono results showed 140 gr Underwood loaded extreme penetrators at 1500 fps from the muzzle of my 5" P220. Muzzel velocity out of the carbine was over 1700 fps if I remember correctly.

Mine has a number of add ons. It's a fun gun, and it offers a lot of thump at mid to short ranges. It's certainly unique.

A decision was made. I went into cabela's today and started browsing through the gun library. They had a SW1911 with 4 mags and box, on mark down for $530. It's in great condition. I figured this was as good a choice as any. It was a marginally impulsive decision but still a good one I think. Two of the mags look like they've never been loaded or inserted onto the gun.

If you're lacking a rimfire AR, my Smith MP15-22 with magpul furniture and a Nikon A-22 scope has been a hoot. I went with FDE on the gun and mags to differentiate it from my 5.56 AR's.
