I'm looking into getting a new upper. Trying to decide between the two:

1. Spikes 16" Mid-Length w/ 9" BAR Rail

2. Daniel Defense M4 URG V1

To me, it seems the DD would be the way to go but then again I know Spikes makes a good product. If I got the DD, it would come without the vertical grip. Both would be new. The Spikes will come from Spikes...likely with a 2+ month wait. The DD would come from a guy on another gun forum. Spikes is a mid-length, DD is a carbine length gas system

I can get the DD for slightly more (less than $50 difference) than what Spikes wants for their upper.

Is the obvious choice DD? I know the DD MSRPs for more than the Spikes, but some of that is probably 'name brand'. Doesn't necessarily mean it's worth the extra $300 retail. It will be going on a Spikes Punisher lower FWIW

Spike's Tactical is fairly local to me, they do make very nice ARs. I don't know about the wait though. Every time I've seen them at the gun shows they always have a bunch of rifles with them.

If the Daniel Defense upper is ready to go, new, and only $50 extra, I would go that route. The rails forward of the front sight is nice.

From what I've heard, within the last month or so, MOST lowers are going out within 2-3 weeks but uppers are still taking 2+ months

And yes, the DD is ready to go. Will come with DD BCG and charging handle. Also will come with the fixed rear sight....although I'm going to swap it with a Troy

I own and use uppers from both companies. Spike's is pretty good, but DD is nearly perfect. The machining and parts in a DD seem flawless and I don't see any corners cut. Spike's does cut a few little corners here and there, such as not having a crown on their barrels (at least not the two I've changed muzzle devices on). I would get the DD.

Spikes is supposed to be good and is starting to really prove themselves. But DD is already a proven product and in your case can be had immediately. Id go DD.

Thanks for the input everyone...I found a good deal online for the Spikes, plus a 5% off coupon code, and I went with it. Should have my upper tomorrow. Plus it was taking a while for the guy with the DD to get back with me so I thought he sold it. I originally wanted the Spikes over the DD because I like the rail more and wanted a middy. Maybe next time....

Funny, everyone recommended DD and you went w/Spikes JK, they make very good stuff. I am sure it will be great.

Well like I said I didn't hear back from the guy with the DD for a while and I didn't want the opportunity to slip away on the Spikes. Being that I don't have a DD...I will never know the difference. It should be fine for my use.
