Spraying oneself with pepper spray

C. I!!! no not coffee

I personally think throwing a cop of hot coffee would be as effective.
maybe as effective but you cant carry a cup of coffee all day long and expect it to still be hot at the end of the day.
Plus hot coffee in the face is assault or battery, pepperspray is safer then coffee as it's burn is temporary and coffee will do real damage.

Buz, I carry Sabre Red on the job AS a security officer and have deployed it multiple times. Everytime ive used it it has worked the way it was supposed to and i have personally felt the effects all i can say is HOLY :cuss: .This stuff is hot :fire: within 5 seconds of it hitting my face i was down for the count. ALso the liquid comes out orange so you know where uve sprayed the person.

It is something you can become used to, I believe. Years ago a friend brought over a bottle of Dave's Insanity Sauce. It burned and burned. That first burn was the worst. A couple months later of doing it daily, and Dave's started to be weak. I moved up to other stuff like pure cap, just for fun. Nothing beats it on a burrito. So if I was sprayed, I don't think it would have much of an effect.

I'm not a medical expert, but from the little I've read on-line, the way the spray works is it send pain signals down nerves. But the more times you do it, the higher the threashold for the nerves to react is. Eventually you get to the point where the same amount of cap will not fire any nerves, when at one time it would fire a bunch of nerves.

I also remember reading something saying that some % of the population is immune to pepper spray.

Even if it did burn, as long as you remember the spray is not doing any damager, you should be able to have mind over matter. It is different than getting burned for real.

Actually thats not true we had a mexican guy in my oc class that ate really spicy food all the time. when he got sprayed he dropped like a rock. They inside of your mouth has nothing to do with how it will burn on your face.
There are alot of misconceptions about oc spray. Granted 6% of the population is unaffected by the spray but the times ive used it , it has worked.

I am certified through defense technologies in the use of OC spray. NO offense ferrari, but I think im a little more qualified than you are to give advice on the subject.

Bigdog, Ferrari,

I agree with both of you. Eating very hot foods/sauces will build up your tolerance for the OC in them, but only in the area affected - your mouth, tongue, lips, and throat to some extent with foods/sauces. I'm sure that over time from frequently repeated exposure to an OC containing product you will build up a tolerance for the OC - but only in the area exposed.

Johnson's baby shampoo- no more tears

I'm dead serious. We had to be sprayed at the academy. Once we were sprayed, we had to "fight" two punching bags, then either draw our redgun and point it at the instructor or "radio" for backup. took about 20 seconds to do all this. But, if you're adrenaline's up and you're focused, you can fight through the spray for a bit.

Of course, one I was finished, my partner led me over to the hose and baby shampoo. It took me 30 minutes before I could open my eyes for more than a second.

But seriously, Johnson's baby shampoo!!!!

I have pepper sprayed

tons of people (living in SF,CA affords you ample opportunity)

It's scary how long it takes to work on druggie drunks, the best I've ever used was the guardian bear pepper spray, made for grizz...works wonders on druggie drunks.

A couple of months ago my wife asked me to buy her some spray because she
had let her ccw expire while fighting cancer. She couldn't hardly walk across the room much less carry/deploy her handgun.

I asked around and decided on sabre red. I rarely take things on faith alone.
To make a long story short, I walked out in the yard and sprayed the 4oz fogger in the air creating a cloud and walked into it eyes open and took a breath. As I dashed to the house to jump in the shower, I missed the door crashing into the wall. I wish I had known about the baby shampoo thing. I was in the shower for about an hour and my eyes were swollen shut. Breathing was possible but barely. I had expected it to be similar to the HALT spray the mailmen carry. It was a thousand times worse than expected. I was in shorts and t-shirt and I burned all over exposed skin, I was also uv-dyed by the stuff.

I now trust the stuff at least to seriously slow someone down. Could I fight through it? I believe so, now that I know what to expect.

Sorry can't help it!

Remember you didn't take a full blast to the face, believe me it's a lot worse!

BTW how's your wife doing, hope she's doing better!!!

She is recovering from a bone marrow transplant, Lukemia). She is doing quite well so far no sign of the cancer. It has taken five years to get to a point where it looks like we may get back to life.

She is doing quite well

Good to hear!
