Springfield armory, from the CEO

Just watched it. I wasn't impressed and thought it was backpedaling until around the 2min mark when he explained what happened and that they fired the guy in charge of the lobbying group and disbanded the organization. Seems like they did something to correct the mistake rather than just talk past it.

They don't make a lot that I like though and it bothers me that they import a lot of their line and stamp a famous American name on it, seems a little dishonest. BIL bought one of their 10rd 1911 .45 years ago (against my advice) which was a South American import. That thing was a train wreck from the start and shouldn't have been sold by them. Plus, I'm still a little peeved (yes I get peeved easily and don't always let go) that years ago they bought the HS2000 which could have been a Glock killer and just about doubled the price on it after they stamped their name on it. If they would have kept the price near where it was they could have had much more of the market share and polymer guns would not be costing as much or more than metal ones these days.

All that said, I would buy something from them if they made a product I was looking to buy today.

I thought their Brazilian forged frames were supposed to be of high quality. I bought a SA mil spec 1911 traditional about 10 years ago and it ran like a champ.

The video is from 2 years ago (2017)

They still make guns, some nice ones. Get over it.

Go back to hating Cheaper than Dirt for jacking up prices long ago, or "hate" the NRA cause they spent to much money on suits

Some Gun owners are a unforgiving bunch

They are making guns and employing people who earn money pay taxes and support the economy.

Don’t care. Wouldn’t live in Illinois, California, New York or any other corrupt liberal state that is always gonna find ways to take away rights. Their commie policies were cause of all this, company’s gotta do what gotta do to survive. Someone like the IL former governor was probably extorting them. Springfield makes a great product and me likely. No apology needed.

My 21st birthday present to myself was a SA 1911a1 I still love 27 years on. They have worked on my M-1 for me---while I waited---without an appointment. I have been loyal to them....but no more. Over 60% of IL FFLs have given up their licenses owing to this wretchedness. Hemingway said it best---"Remember them as they were and write them off." I'm done with SA.

Though Springfield's CEO's mea culpa came uncomfortably close to appearing like disgraced tv preacher Jimmy Swaggarts' "tearful" plea for forgiveness; because I can't know what's in his head nor what his motivation was, I will take him at his word. To err is human; to forgive is divine.

To those that are comparing SAI to Ruger or S&W...

Bill Ruger is dead. The products that he said shouldn't be available to the masses are being produced by new leadership.

The old S&W leadership is dead, replaced by new owners that did not get in bed with the government.

SAI is still the same SAI.

I bought my XDs45 before I knew much about this.

I was fairly new at the time and liked the grip safety and how it felt.

Since then I’ve become a huge fan of the S&W M&P 2.0s. Besides everything else, I love they’re made in the USA by an American company. It’s something I can’t say about Springfield.

So he can apologize all he wants. If he’s not making his products here, and there is an alternative that is that I like I won’t be buying his product.
Where does Springfield make their products?

They make a decent 1911. They sell a solid polymer striker pistol. They have a good AR. The only thing I'm aware of that they currently have that is unique to them is the M1A.
I honestly don't know if they are truly sorry about what happened or just sorry they got caught.
I will say that if any gun company should be boycotted for being anti-gun, it's Ruger. I really don't know how Bill Ruger could push so much anti-gun BS, and sell so many guns at the same time. Bill is dead now and Ruger (the company) isn't that way anymore.
As to them moving; it may or may not be feasible. Magpul pulled it off, moving production just up Interstate 25 & across the State line. They were able to keep many of their employees. I don't know if SA could do something similar.

He sounds like a man that knows how good the memories of gun owners are.

I’m glad to hear words come from the mouth of business owners that are not completely anti gun.

Great work by their PR firm. An absolute, flat out lie.

Springfield Armory supported the bill until their support got them in trouble. Then they threw the lobby group that was a virtual in-house adjunct of the company under the bus to try digging out of their hole. The CEO is outright lying when he says that SA didn't know that their lobby group was supporting the legislation or didn't understand the gravity of the legislation. After they got caught, they shifted blame and moved to oppose the bill.

I take much less issue with the original action, pursuing competitive advantage through legislative and regulatory management, than with this cock-and-bull story attempting to rehabilitate them.

Don't own anything they import. Don't want to. Don't want to mind anybody else's business if they do.

It's their original action that I have the biggest problem with. They were willing to standby and allow an anti 2A bill to pass so long as they were exempt. And the "lobby group" was one guy they hired and had face to face meetings with.
I reminds me a little of a local news story in Iowa years ago about a hog farm that was taking advice from PETA about how to best raise their pigs.

Eh, I'm mostly over it. Won't buy a Springer handgun anyway. Like Glock for my plastic and other brands for my future 1911 purchases (Dan Wesson, semi customs).

I do kinda really want another M1A, the Tanker looks fun.

Where does Springfield make their products?
They assemble/finish many at Geneseo, IL. (Not the XDs) They have had raw castings/forgings made in Brazil, Canada, and even Australia over the years. I'm sure their recent AR "Saint" line is sourced from the likely AR parts makers. They generally have very good to excellent quality control and stand by their products.
