I think I'm going to get a Springfield Armory TRP Operator with a 1/2 light rail.

I like the look and the feel of it, and I need a good 1911.

Does anyone have one and what do you think of it?

That checkering on the frontstrap makes my hands cry. Try to find one to put a few rounds through before you purchase one, either you've got much tougher hands than I do or you'll be trying to find a way to reattach skin.

I have one of the older TRP Operators with the full length rail and it has been a wonderful pistol with zero malfunctions. It's very accurate and has been 100% reliable with every type of ammo I've tried. As for the frontstrap checkering...it IS sharp, but in no time at all I reached the point where it's not even noticeable. What I do continue to notice is the exceptional grip it affords. Once you grab hold of this pistol it doesn't budge.

The checkering is sharp on them, but if it is stainless, carefull use of 400 and 600 grit sandpaper can smooth it up real nice. Only try this if you are good with your hands and do stuff like this though. If it is blue you would have to deal with rebluing it and I would let a Pro do it. Don't want to mess up a nice pistol. I did it on my Springfield I bought used. It was still sharp and "grabby" after a good bit of use. Worked out real well.

I have the same model TRP as azimuth and have not noticed the checkering. It is the softest shooting 45 I have ever fired, deadly accurate, and completely reliable. It makes me look like a much better shooter than I am. Personally I prefer the full length rail if you can find a gun with that due to the effects it has on shooting characteristics. Were the world to end tomorrow and I felt the need to strap on a pistol for the final fireworks, the TRP would likely be it.
