I am finally going to buy a high dollar 1911 and I have it narrowed down to these 2. Anyone have any good input regarding both of these?

I don't have either, but I have handled both, and I would go with the Les Baer. Everybody I know with one likes their TRP and Les Baer pistols. You can't go wrong either way.

The TRP is one of the very best production 1911s you could buy. The TRS is on a whole other level in every way. They also costs $300-400 more. Les claims they have 40 hours fitting in each one, I'm not sure about that but when you hold one they feel like one solid chunk of steel.

Go for the Les Baer. The TRP is a fine weapon, but I think you just get more for your money with a Baer.

Check out this related thread.

If you really want a Springfield, take a look at the Custom Carry. It's made to the same exacting standards as the more famous Professional, but without some of the goodies. Specifically it does not have an ambi safety, front strap checkering, Black-T finish, nightsights, or an extended magwell. But the important stuff, the barrel and other internals are exactly the same. That's what I did, and I hope to have my Custom Carry finished by the end of the month. The best part is that I still have Springfield's lifetime warranty.

Was in the same boat 1 year ago. Talked to a 1911 custom builder and asked the same question. He told me the TRP is the best 1911 "Off the shelf" but it is not in the same league as a Les Baer. So I bought the Les Baer PII and have never looked back, by far the best weapon I have ever shot.

Way back in the spring of 2006, I looked at the Springfield TRP and Les
Baer Thunder Ranch Special; along with other "high dollar" pistols from
manufactuer'ers such as Ed Brown, Wislon Combat, and Nighthawk. By
far and away the Baer weapons had a much tighter fit, than all the rest.
So, that was my reason for choosing the Baer TRS, over the others; not
too mention its a great shooter, and far more accurate than I am~! ;)

I cannot speak for the Springfield but have a TRS. Awesome pistol. The trigger breaks at a very crisp 4lbs and has zero creep. Sights are small but very bright. Good for carry I guess but I perfer my Wilson CQB sights. The pistol is very tight. It took 500 rounds to make reliable. The saftey took quite a bit of effort to operate in the beginning but it feels great now that I have 3000 rounds through it.

One thing that I don't like are the magazines. I get double feeds regulary with 230g ball. Not a problem with Wilson magazines. Funny thing is they are listed as 7 round magazines but hold 8. They feed fine with 200g LSWC.

Wow if all the responses didnt do it that last pic did. Looks like I will be ordering a TRS this week or next. Pics to follow.

If you are talking about getting the TRP with the full length dust cover then get the Les Baer Monolith instead. Both pistols have similar profiles. It it is the TRP without the full length dust cover then get the Les Baer Premier. I have owned all four, I do not have my TRPs any longer but I still have the Les Baers.

Just as a FYI you can save $250-300 by ordering from Sporting Arms or Pro Load and have it transfered in. The sales tax saving alone is over $100. The TRS should be right around $1700 from either and I'm sure one of them will have one in stock.
