Springfield XDm magazine question.

I acquired a used Springfield XDm 9mm pistol that came with the two 19 round mags and a 16 round magazine.

The 16 rounder doesn't work, though. The notch in the mag is lower than the ones for the 19 rounder. The mag won't stay in and won't load a round. Is this mag for a different model XD? If so, which one do you think?

Sounds like that's an XDm .40 magazine to me. Could also be for the older XD. Does it look the same as the 19 rounders minus the notch?

The 16 round is for the original XD model. I have both and the mags do not interchange. XDM mags are 19 rounds.

Seller probably gave you the wrong mag - and might be annoyed that (s)he now has a mag that won't fit an XD

The XDm 40 mags do hold 16 rounds. If you figure out that it is a .40 mag let me know and maybe I can buy it from you.

Ok, this is definitely a 9mm magazine as it says so at the bottom of the baseplate.

It is not for the XDm 9mm, though, which is the gun I have.

This must narrow it down. The hole in the magazine is lower than the one for the XDm.

As already mentioned, it is for the XD model which came out before yours.

I'm considering buying a XD subcompact 9mm. Will this work in that gun?

Yes

The XD 9SC comes with 13rd flush and 16rd extended mags. The 16rd is the same as for a full size XD9, but comes with a slip on grip for the mag.

You might need/want the grip sleeve, which you can find online.
