I have not handled any of the Byrd knives yet. I will be anxious to hear your thoughts when you have recieved it.

These are imported by Spyderco not made in house, is that correct?

Like the Moki knives, Spyderco imports but doesn't manufacture the Byrd knives. I did handle one at Blade and it seemed fine.

I handled one this weekend at a knife show. For $17-20 they are great buy. I will be picking one up shortly.

I have the Smith and Wesson Kerambit. The Spyderco Byrd Line is much better in terms of quality. I believe the Byrd line is made in China.

The stainless handle gets very slippery with even the slightest amount of moisture or sweat. I'm not really fond of that. Could fix the problem with a little skateboard tape but then the looks are shot. I'm no great fan of the hawksbill blade either. I don't cut enough cordage to take advantage of it's speciality and I hate limit my piercing ability like that. But, if a hawksbill is what you're looking for, the spyderco will treat you right; just take care with your grip.

Actually, Flashpoint, Spyderco knives are made in Taiwan, Seki, Japan, and Colorado. (And a few will soon be made in Italy.)

Yeah, I know, but I was speaking beyond knives. It seems like 90% of the stuff has "Made In China" printed on it somewhere. Then again, maybe I just shop at Wal-Mart too much

asdaf,

I would think that you could use a Dremel and a diamond bit and add some custom texture if you needed to. I have not had any grip problems from my Kershaw Vapor II and it's essentially the same type of scales.

Also, I'm not really picking up the Crossbill as a EDC, I just like the Hawkbill design. A few years ago we had a dinner at my church and I picked up a Hawkbill shaped steak knife, I was real impressed at how well it cut. The first slice went through the meat, through the plate, and put a scratch on the table.

I may get it and it turn into an EDC but I'm not expecting it.
