St. Louis Gun Shops

The prices were a tad higher than MSRP, but for a small country store/gas station/gun & archery store in a rural setting, they weren't unreasonable, and the staff are super nice.

Don't let the location fool you. They are well known throughout the entire state.

I always enjoy walking around Fort Davidson and the old court house in town that has cannonball holes in the brickwork.

The Fort Davidson cafe serves a good lunch, and has been know to have strawberry rhubarb pie.

Does anyone know where in St. Louis I can find some .380 ammunition? I'm looking for FMJs or HPs (at this point, as long as it uses a brass case, I don't care). I've called about a half dozen places around me to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Dunn's in Pevely had some a couple of weeks ago. I bought a couple of boxes.....PMC if I remember correctly.

I would call first - they will hold a few for you.

Are you sure that Adventure Shooting Sports is closed? They used to be in the Hummer dealer at the Boone Crossing Exit, but they've moved to a small strip mall just west of Long Road, between a paint store and a music store I believe.

I've been there a few times. Prices seemed a little high (2-3/5 maybe) but lower than some of the other shops. They had lots of Sigs, Glocks & M&P pistols and a few long guns. I think the panic hit them pretty hard because the inventory was nearly non-existent for awhile. They have suppressors, muzzle brakes, and flashlights with some prices comparable to what I've seen on the interwebs.

They also sell Champion gun safes, which are decent safes (I researched quite a few safes and nearly bought one last year.)

Does anyone remember Shooting Systems? They used to have a store in Fenton, then opened a second one in Collinsville. I liked that place; bought a rifle from the Fenton location and a shotgun and other accessories from the Collinsville store.

Rumors aside, does anyone know what really happened to close them down?

I drove by the original location a while ago, and there's a new business there. I did not see any indication that it had moved, so I assumed it had closed. The prices there, from what I saw the three or four times that I went, were really high, though.

It seems Cabela's has plenty of .380 (if not much else!)

I was just there on Sunday and did not see any then. I did, however, witness the arrival of some CCI Mini Mags. The crowds descended on that aisle like starving locusts. And there was a 100-round limit on the Mini Mags. I'll have to check again.

Gun Show - St. Charles

Norm of "Norm's" has a NIB Walther PPQM1 in .40 for $569.00. Norm is usually good for a cash discount.

It's been 7-8 months since I've been to a gun show, and was pleasantly suprised to see fairly reasonable prices overall. Saw some Kel-Tec KSGs and UTAS' going for ridiculous amounts, and Springfield M1As have always been pricey, but your bog-standard SBR is back down to fairly normal, pre-Newtown/Obama Scare prices.

Didn't check ammo prices.

Top Tier Outdoors just opened in Ellisville, on Manchester Road. I purchased some Fiocchi Extrema XTP .380 for $14.99 a box, and some .223.

They have some very high-end stuff if that's what you're in to, and your normal Glock, XD, Remington, etc. Firearm prices are fair, and ammo prices are really good (IMHO).

My only problem with them is that the ONLY optics they carry are Zeiss. Not sure why.

I am again in the market for a rifle, Not sure If I want to get an SKS or an Mosin M44. wanting to continue building the collection. I would like to head over to Cabelas and see if they have some but I would like to know if any of you have had success with using a C&R/FFL03 at the Hazelwood, MO location. I've been reading many cases of stores not accepting them. What are your experiences if you have one?

Thanks!

Just a thought........if you have a C&R why buy from cabela's? Why not buy directly from a distributer?

Keeping all my options open. I would of course go to the distributor, but If I'm in there and I see something I am looking for and it's at a reasonable price, I'm going to want it. I've been in contact with cabelas customer service and they are not giving a straight answer at the moment. Need to find the contact for the main company gun library. Been reading some have had success and others not so much in store, I guess it depends on the knowledge of the employees.

What kinds of high end stuff do they have? I'm not too rough with my firearms, but I tend to prefer nicer things in general, perhaps cause my parent's barely scrapped by when I was growing up and I saw all the cheap stuff they bought fall apart.

That's not too far from my house and I may check it out one day after work. They aren't very far away from Ruth's guns [might be another name] - 2 doors down from Lucas Liquors.

Do they have many AR's or SBRs/NFA toys? I'm looking to pick up a 14.5" AR.

Edit:

I was in American Arms on Manchester several months ago and I was told they were in the process of building an indoor range east of there on Manchester. Has anyone else heard this ?

+Update:
I stopped by Top Tier on the way home tonight. If the cattails on the sign aren't enough of a clue, they are 85% waterfowl focused; Clothes, calls, decoys and bags. Otherwise they have Zeiss optics & expensive handguns and ammo. They want $550.95 for a case of American Eagle .223 (AE223BK), which can be found on gunbot.net for $.39/rd and for $.50/rd at Cabela's.

I'm sure they have a high rent payment for that prime commercial lot on Manchester, but the owner's new Corvette sitting in the front of the parking lot tells me they're doing okay so far...
