I just got my Springfield Armory Stainless Mil-Spec back from a buddy after a little over a year...he needed a spare .45ACP 1911A1 type pistol to compliment his TRP and I had this one so...it is a Stainless Mil-Spec (I regret every day I didn't buy the Parkerized version!) that I used in Teddy Jacobson and Stephen Camp's first Project Street Gun...
Basically it is a "stock" Mil-Spec with modded internals so that the end result is a supremely reliable take anywhere 1911A1 pistol that won't break the bank and looks fairly "stock."
I won't go into much as you probably have all seen Mr. Camp's review (on every website on the planet) and his gun is much better lookinmg than mine but I have the added jeweled long trigger to go with all the added innards.
I know it should have a pair of double diamonds but my buddy showed his 'preciation by giving me this pair of Craig Spegal's as well as a pair of Linen Micarta VZ grips...

:D Silversport, nice springer. I've got one, but it's all stock. I'd like to upgrade my sights, can you tell me what kind you have on yours and what mods you had to make to install them?

Thanks!

my sights are stock Springfield Mil-Spec...do you have the G.I.???...I think Springfield at one time called the WWII G.I. Mil-Spec but mine is the step up from the G.I...I have heard about someones sights that are similar to these...King's high hardballer sights...I also think Springfield can install the sights for you...good luck...very nice value in a 1911 style pistol.

I'm not familiar with the aforementioned reviews. Would you please be so kind as to elaborate on the precise modifications made to this pistol?

I have a Mil-Spec that I was contemplating sending to Yost-Bonitz for modifications but it's a "break the bank" deal for me. I'm not doubting the quality of their work; I'm sure it's first class and worth every penny. I just don't have the money to do it and am therefore interested in what you did to make this pistol supremely reliable.

Thank you!

Nice pistol by the way. ;)

Its ugly. Send it to me so I can make it pretty. I wont even charge you for this service. ;)

Seriously can you post a link to this Mr. Camp's website. I am looking at building up a Series 70 pistol for myself and am interested in learning how.

Thanks.

Silversport,

Thanks for the sight info - my springers a GI model, SS 6" and I love it except for 2 things. One is the sights, as they're low profile and my old myopic bifocalled eyes need a slightly larger sight. The other is the grip safety as I am constantly getting hammer bite (but it doesn't stop me from going to the range!).:D

I broke the sharp edges of the grip safety for just the same reasons you mentioned...my flesh (okay, FAT :D) between thumb and forefinger gets bloody from my higher hold and that grip safety...the hammer is slightly bobbed so as not to get hammer bite...enjoy...my eyes have gotten worse as well...just part of life, eh???

silversport,

Did you use a stone to break the edges of the grip safety? Also, how did you bob the hammer? I'm interested b/c the last time I shot my Mil-Spec my hand was bloody from hammer bite.

the hammer is a replacement from Teddy Jacobson... actionsbyt.us and is already bobbed...I removed the grip safety and used fine sandpaper (horrors) to just break over the edges...just so you know...on the stainless pistols, Springfield apparently uses a chrome flash over carbo steel MiM...mine is no longer "silver" like it was when bought but has back where the parts wore or I used the sandpaper...
