I am about to order a holster for my 4.2" SP101. This will be used solely for carry outside my belt (open carry) and will see a lot of woods time. I'm looking for something that balances svelte carry and protection for the gun.

I really like the idea of the Simply Rugged Silver Dollar Pancake. It appears to be very protective but I fear it will also be very large (it appears to be larger than needed in the pictures) and will get in the way of carrying this small frame revolver.

On the other hand is the very trim Lobo Model 1 Pancake holster. This appears to be as trim as possible which makes me fear those adjustable rear sights may get knocked off.

I am leaning towards the Lobo right now.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I own both and the main reason to go with the Simply Rugged is if you're packing a large frame revolver.

Ray at Lobo makes real nice stuff that is priced real well and turned around pretty doggone fast, and for a small frame revolver I'd definitely go with his.

I really like the Simply Rugged I pack my Dan Wesson 14-2 in, but in retrospect I'd probably have bought a Lobo instead (but I didn't know about Ray when I ordered my Sourdough).

LOS (another poster here) got one for his J Frame that was awful purdy too.

I've not noticed the SimplyRugged being huge when compared to other holsters with similar features (multiple belt loops/options) when made for the same pistol. I do find the SimplyRugged design to be very comfortable; it spreads the weight very well.

I have 2 Lobo Model 1 Pancakes, and 6 Enhanced Pancakes. I have them for revolvers from an LCR Ruger, and 638 S&W on the small side to my 4" N Frame 610 on the larger end of the scale.

I like them. Ray prices are very reasonable. His delivery time is currently 4 to 5 weeks. He makes several Models, with multiple options.

Is there a structural advantage to Lobo's Enhanced Pancake over the Model 1 Pancake or are the tunnel loops more an appearance feature? Do they ride at about the same height?

Both are good. I like Simply Rugged better. It comes down to personal choice.
