Star BM 9mm surplus

Nice pictures and I like the condition of your piece. I'll post pictures of both mine when I get the second one. According to everyone I will have two parts guns. :)
They finally got the lead out, over at Classic, and found the FFL. Shipping should go off rather quickly. Hope it's not a rust bucket scratch and dent.

Here's mine. It goes bang every time, feels great in my hand, and is more accurate than I am. Oh, and it cost almost nothing.

Other than that, there's really nothing to like about it.

I've owned two in the past but didn't keep them. They're solid guns, but heavy for their size and not super accurate (in my experience, anyway). Spare mags are tough to find and expensive, as are spare parts generally. To me, the BM (which is the most unfortunate of monikers to have for a pistol) is a poor man's 1911. If you're the sort that likes a 1911-style pistol and wants a cheap one to stash in the glove box of your truck, the BM will do nicely. Otherwise, I'd much prefer something else.

The BM is a nice complement to a 1911, and it doesn't have to be a cheap truck piece to do so.

I have 2 GI style 1911's, both lower priced 5" .45's. I just recently put some checkered walnut grips on them. I also have 2 BMs that I also put checkered walnut grips on.
The two pistols look closely related, but different enough that they both fit into niches.

Nice picture Gunny.
All four corners were torn out on my cardboard box when I received it about a year ago. I took a strip of heavy linen and white glued it into each corner on the inside of the box. Put a big thin rubber band around it to hold the corners while it dried. After 24 hours my box was like new! Ya' know.... now that I think about it, where in the heck did I store that box at?? The pistol is in a rug.

The pistol is in a rug.
<shiver> That brought up my memory of removing my Dad's .357 from the rug it had been stored in for years. Rust City. :(

It was one of the early silicone-treated jobbers from the late '60s.

I am sure they are much-improved by now but due to that experience I will not even allow one in the house ... just in case it starts whispering evil things to other firearms close-storage devices around here, :)

It happened to me with 2 of them (pistols), a nickel model 29 Smith and a .30 carbine Blackhawk.
DON'T STORE IN RUGS OR HOLSTERS is a good motto.

I bought one fairly soon after they hit the market this last wave. I did so because I like the Modelo B Super I picked up a few years back, and the 30MI I got not long after. The price was a factor, I got mine around $225 or so with 2 mags.

I liked it so much that I spring for another when Classic ran a deal at $159, and added another mag for $20. Again, that also has been a keeper.

All things considered, this has to be one of the best surplus deals in at least a decade.
It's 9x19, the most common and cheapest ammo available (short of 22lr). No need to rely on online deals or steel-cased ammo to keep shooting affordable.
It's got a lot of 1911 DNA in the looks, which translates to "attractive". That said, it's not a pure 1911 knockoff, so it's not readily replaceable... closest thing going might be the EMP4.

I blame you guys.

I’ve had several Stars & sold them: Model B, Model 30M, & - yes - Model BM. So many guns, so little safe space. I’ve kept a Super B.

But because of you folks, I got the itch for another BM. The gunbroker auction just closed, and I have broken my rule of “once-sold-never-buy-another-one” rule and will be picking up another Star BM 9mm in a few weeks.

And it’s all your fault. Don’t you just feel terrible?

With the current wave, this isn't the case so much anymore.

Several places had the mags for $20, and I've seen them on ebay and gunbroker for not much more.
Parts- Numrich now makes the firing pin https://www.gunpartscorp.com/products/715790 . That's been the big bugaboo for these. They also have the extractor and other parts. With parts now addressed, there's a lot less to worry about.

So far, I seem to be lucky with POA. I have a goodly amount of S&B 115 and 124 gr, and both seem to be within an inch of each other at 10 yds.

All this talk of BMs and 1911's has me itchy. Going to take mine to the range today for some good ol' plinking.

Need something to take my mind off of the US Post Office; I have a money order sent out for a recent gunbroker purchase (a S&W 5906 for $275). I hate relying on mail because it takes longer than a CC transaction, and I just don't trust them too much this time of year. I'm sure it will make it through, but I've been waiting... the gun could have been here already if it was paid out and shipped the day after I won. :(

The second one arrived yesterday. Looks like it was carried by Jose Siesta as there is only a bunch of holster wear on the slide.

The near one is the latest. This is the $180 special. I feel screwed as they charged me sales tax on the shipping!
Little to no wear on the locking surfaces and fairly tight all around. ONly one mag included. They shoulda' sent two.
The first has been stored in the pistol rug for 6-8 months. There is no rust. My storage area has constant 50% humidity and about 60 degree temp. controlled. I'll be sure to check my rugs periodically from now on.
