I'd like some opinions about a pistol I just purchased a 9mm firestar plus. I know that star doesn't make anything now so yes I know parts may be a problem.I purchased a Mod 43 in 1990 and I really liked it .I never had any problems with it.I only fired it just to familiarize myself with it. It was stolen in 2011. I was happy to find the Starfire Plus since I have 2 Galco holsters for it and a hard case that was made for it.

I've had a bunch of Stars in 9mm and found them all solid, reliable, decent triggers, and good guns.

I just got one of the Star BMs that are available now ($199 at AIM and J&G) and it's got a sweet SA trigger, was in good+ shape and I'll have it to the range this week.

You already know parts are not all that easy to come by....but then they don't break that often in my experience. I found myself trading them (I bought them when they were what I could afford and traded up as I was able to buy better, really easier to repair, guns.

I'd shoot the snot outta it....and worry about breakage later, especially if you got it for a good price.

I've never fired a Plus, but like you I also had one of the M43's back in the day. It was a tad heavy for it's size, but it was a tank. I probably could have used it to drive tent stakes without hurting it nary a bit. ProMag still appears to make magazines for it, but I've heard mixed reviews on the promags. I'd shoot it for as long as it lasts, because it would probably last far longer than me anyway :D

I've also had several stars, starting with a Model 1 and a number of Firestar Plus models. My favorite was a Starvel one (electroless nickel). I traded that one for a very nice Mauser rifle.

The Firestar Plus model is a great little gun. Accurate and the trigger is easily tuned. Magazines are now hard to find, and a few parts could be an issue on down the road, but they seem to be almost bullet-proof.

I have three Stars. They are all good-quality reliable pistols. The OP did good!
