Southern Ohio Gun is selling Mossberg 590A1s (item Moss-51660, it showed up in their system as a '590 with heat shield', so this might be a pricing mistake, 51660 is Mossberg's model number for the 590A1) for $289+shipping until the end of the month. This model only has a bead sight, but the price is a good $50 lower than the normal distributor prices I have access to. Ghost rings can be added for $60ish + installation of the front sight if you want, the reciever's already tapped in 4 spots (I think its four, dont have the shotgun in front of me) along the top for adding whatever goodies you could want.

It showed up at my FFL earlier this week, and I picked it up yesterday afternoon (instead of studying for a Patent Law test I had last night, its all about priorities :D ). Package included the 590A1, a front sling attachment point eyelet (can be screwed into either the end of the magazine cap, or the rear face of the bayonet lug) in a paper baggie, a manual, cable lock, warrenty card and some anti-rust paper.

The gun's pretty grimy, seems some dust settled onto the oil it was coated with, and the magazine tube was very wet with the same under the pump arm. Be prepared to spend a little while cleaning it, if you pick one up.

The open-bottom design of the 590 is interesting, seemingly the opposite of my 870, but it left me wondering what keeps shells from falling out the bottom when the lifter is in the down position (as the lifter's middle section seems a little small). I guess it would help if I had a few dummy shells to cycle through it to see how the feeding sequence actually works. It shoulders comfortably for me, and feels solid in my hands.

The total price was so low due to my finding a dealer that does transfers for $25 flat (DE doesnt have a state sales tax), so with $17 shipping from UPS, it showed up within 4 business days of ordering (dealer got the check Thursday, showed up Tuesday).

Now I just have to make a short trip home to try it out (I stupidly left my shooting glasses, electronic muffs and such back home, on the other side of Maryland), assuming my school work ever lightens up, otherwise I'll have to check it out during Thanksgiving break.

Take it from me, disassembling them is easy but reassembly is a beotch!

I finally did get mine put back together, though.

Mine has ghost ring sights, metal safety, and metal trigger group. I paid quite a bit more for it than you paid for yours, though.

Thanks for the headsup, Kharn. Good luck with the new toy and on that Patent Law thingie....

Just as an other head's up...you can get a Rem 870 Synthetic 18" barrel 7 shot for $279.99 from gunfinder. After shipping and FFL transfer, you're looking at about $314. Not too shabby. I love mine.
