I shoot IDPA, and at the end of a stage you are asked to show clear, and also pull the trigger.
I would like to shoot a Steel Challenge match with a rimfire pistol, so i was wondering if they also require the hammer to be dropped at the end of a stage.
My concern is because you aren't suppose to dry fire rimfire guns.

From the Steel Challenge rule book (emphasis added):

5.3.8 “If clear, hammer down, holster” (handguns) or “If clear, hammer down,
flag” (PCC) or “If clear, cylinder closed, holster” (revolvers). After issuance
of this command, the competitor is prohibited from firing. While continuing
to point the firearm safely downrange, the competitor must perform a final
safety check of the firearm as follows:

5.3.8.1 Centerfire self-loading handgun – release the slide and pull the
trigger (without touching the hammer or de-cocker, if any).
Rimfire pistol – show clear and holster or case. (Trigger need not
be pulled.)

5.3.8.3
Rimfire Rifle – show clear, flag, and case. (Trigger need not be
pulled.) Note: The bolt must be closed on a chamber flag.

Many clubs will have you flag rimfire pistols even though it is technically not required.

If your gun will do it, an occasional dryfire ULSC won't hurt a "modern " .22 auto.

I shoot mostly RFPI with a S&W M41 having a magazine disconnect. When told to unload and show clear, I remove the magazine, unload the chamber, and show empty mag well and chamber to the SO. I then close the slide and stroke the trigger against the disconnect, then bag or holster. (I often carry even the .22 in a holster, even though shooting is from low ready, because that is where my reflexes expect to find - and return - a pistol.)

That is what is permitted me at one location, can't speak to other matches.

Which rimfire gun are we talking about?

at my club they just double check the chamber is clear and let you bag rimfires if you desire.

I removed the mag disconnect from my MKIII and dry fire it at the end of the stage without concern.

I believe they say that you *may* drop the hammer. Where I go they don't make us (on rimfires).

On centerfires we drop the hammer.

You are not required to drop the hammer on a rimfire. You must show clean and flag a rifle or then bag your pistol. If you end up being loaded for the next stage you will be disqualified so make sure your gun is unloaded.
