Howdy folks.

Do any of you know anything about Steyr Rifles, Either the Pro Hunter line or the Forester? How do they stack up to our domestic brands? How are the triggers and general accuracy? I am thinking of getting one in either .308 or .270.

Any thoughts or experiences will be appreciated.

Thanks

My Father picked up a ProHunter in .270 and it's built like a TANK. He took the stock off to adjust the trigger and was amazed at the quality and strength of the design and workmanship. It's scoped with a Bushnell Banner 3x9 and I can easily shoot it rested with a sling into 1.5" groups at 100 yards and I'm not very good with a rifle and that was before he adjusted the trigger. It's MUCH better now.

Testing it out my Dad got better than 1" 5 round groups with hunting ammunition. It seemed to like 150 gr Silvertips even better than the Federal Premium.

The actions and barrels are identical to the Austrian military sniper rifles. Only the stocks are differant. They're a great gun and a great value here in the US. I hear in Europe they are very desireable and sell around $1200 US new.

If you have a line on one for a good price I can't think of very many better choices for a deer gun. In fact, right now I can't think of any.

The ProHunter is extremely accurate and reliable out of the box. It's the same action as the Scout rifle, so you can get a lot of good general information from http://home.sprynet.com/~frfrog/froghome.htm
or direct to the page at http://www.steyrscout.org/project.htm

The ProHunters are being closed out an incredible prices because of the transistion from GSI to RWS as the importer.

If I didn't have a Scout, I'd buy a ProHunter in .308.

CDNN http://www.cdnninvestments.com/ has some outstanding prices on stocks, spacers, rifles, etc. I've dealt with them for years and can recommend them highly.

Enjoy.

The only problems I have with the current Steyr rifles is that most of their lineup is not yet sold stateside. They make all kinds of cool rifles, even chambered in 8x57JS and similar cartridges Remchester never touches.
