Of late, I am becoming very picky about sight, and I'm almost losing faith in the ability the free market to provide suitable sights. The standard 3-dot sights are ok, but they don't seem to draw your attention to the front sight. I do like the sights on Sigs, as they do seem to draw your attention that way, but they don't have them in factory night sights.

Lately, I've been looking at the sights on Steyrs, and the trapazoidal sights definately are interesting. They seem to target aquire very rapidly.

To those that have used them, how quickly do they aquire?

How accurate are they at extended ranges (beyond 20m)?

Thanks

I have a M40 and the sights are alot easier to pick up than the standard three dots. I have shot it side by side with a G23 and there was a noticable difference for sight acquisition for follow up shots that may be do to the lower bore axis on the M40 though. As far as accuracy it impresses me more every time I shoot. I can't give you exact numbers but it is significantly better than my friends G23.

Ditto what TIR said.

When I bought my Steyr M40 I was skeptical of the sights but after a couple of trips to the range I decided I really like them.

I just wish I could find them for other guns.

I haven't had a chance to shoot a Steyr yet, but in handling one I found they just take a little getting used to. I still prefer the von Stavenhagen sights on my SIG Sauers though.

If you want fast front sight acquisition try the Ashley Outdoors Express front sight. They even make a big dot version.

The Steyr sights are accurate, but slow for me. I am considering angling the sides of Novak the rear sights on one of my guns to try it. You would get the same tight fit of the front sight in the rear notch at the top so you could shoot for accuracy, yet opening the bottom of the notch would let more light in at the bottom for faster pick up of the front sight. Don't know how it will work, but I might try it.

I really like the large front triangle on my M40. You just can't miss it...I tend to think it would work well in a high stress situation.

I acquire on my M9 much much faster than my Glocks equipped with Meps. I wish I could get these for my Glocks. As far as accuracy goes, seems to me to be just about the same.
