I am in the market for a .45 1911. It’s been rough trying to find one that I like:
No front cocking serrations
Series 70 firing pin
Ambidextrous safety (I am a lefty...)
No internal locks (Springfield is OK since their lock is easy to replace)
Standard internal extractor
Adjustable and visible dovetailed sights
No guide rod
Beavertail grip safety
Costs less than $1000
Believe it or not, no one appears to *currently* make this gun (if you find a manufacturer, please let me know!). The Springfield loaded designs all have front cocking serrations. The Para Ordinance single stacks all have the “power extractor.” Smith and Wesson’s all have the grip activated firing pin block… Ed browns are great, but I don’t have that level of cash… etc.
The STI Trojan appears to fit the bill and it’s less than $1000 (barely). I can replace its guide rod. However, it’s got those nasty front cocking serrations. The 2006 STI catalog explains that the STI Trojan 5.0 has an "Alternate Top End" option. STI does make a rear cocking serration only slide.
Has anyone tried to order an “Alternate Top End” STI from the factory?
Thanks.
