Greetings and salutations all,

I have here in my hands er... lap, because my hands are on my keyboard, a Bell and Carlson stock (at least, that is what is on the recoil pad, so I assume it is actually a Bell and Carlson) that is wrapped in "Seclusion 3D" camo finish. (I obtained this stock used) I am pretty sure that information is unnecessary, but I figured that I might as well give it.

Anyway, the forend of this stock is warped. Badly. It is some kind of synthetic material, some kind of resin or something. I don't want to say that it is fiberglass, because it looks nothing like the fiberglass I am used to (body work, aviation or automobile), but it could be, I guess, if stock fiberglass is different than body fiberglass (sorry, everything I own is wood, well, I have a .22 that is pretty basic plastic). Is there any way to straighten it? If not, it isn't a big deal, I'll just hog it out bigger and fill it back up with epoxy, and the barrel won't go quite perfectly down the center of the stock. I just wanted to know if there was any trick to this kind of thing.

Thanks!

I don't think you can straighten it w/out heating it. Better to go the route of routing out the channel and then rebedding it.

Can we get a picture? B&C usually uses foam with glass on top i believer, atleast the ones ive seen were like that. I personally would probably try heating it in the oven on low with the door open, or slowly with a heat gun, then bending it back. Ive straitend twisted bow limbs similarly.

I am going to say "no" on the picture for the moment... Sorry. To acquire that level of technical proficiency...

Last time I posted a picture, I had a friend do it for me!

If I can figure out how to do it before I finish, then sure! I have already started grinding on the stock though, so I don't think I'll be heating it. Although...

Foam sounds right. Very light stock. I couldn't find this model on their site though.

B&C's stocks are typically urethane reinforced with graphite, aramid fibers, and fiberglass. I'd say it'd be luck to heat and straighten the stock.

Route and straighten with a rod or V-channel. Easy enough.

Might give B&C a call and see if they'll warranty the stock too, just to be sure the box is checked.

Haven't been able to get on in a while, still catching up... Wasn't able to straighten with heat. No way they will warranty! Already glass bedded after hogging it out. Still not straight, bit bedded at least. Problem is, stock is very flexible. I will probably route a channel and epoxy a v-channel to try to stiffen it. Think it will work?

I am pretty sure this stock was a second anyway. It was in the Bargain Cave at Cabela's. It is one of those "price is right" moments.

"...barrel won't go quite perfectly down the center of the stock..." That can be caused by the receiver not being straight in the stock. You need to look into that first.
"...to stiffen it..." Forends can be stiffened by epoxying an AL arrow shaft(light weight but kind of pricey if you don't have any broken arrows laying around. An arrow is just a 1/4" Al tube.) or two into the forend. I believe the barrel channel usually gets routed out for the thing to fit.

Nope, forend is definitely warped. Too late now, anyway! Its all full of epoxy after inletting the right side quite aggressively. Haven't gotten around to stiffening yet. We'll see how it turns out whenever I get to it.

I've got some extruded aluminum laying around. Building airplanes seems to be a genetic disorder that runs in the family, and I may have somehow ended up with some of my dad's scrap pile... Somehow...

Archery isn't my thing at the moment, so I'll probably go dig in the scrap pile.

Oops... Not sure how I managed to quote my own entire post instead of edit it...
