Hi,

I have a stoeger coach gun for a long time now. I always wanted to put a sling on it, but I have no idea how or if it can be done. Anyone know how to put a sling on a coach gun?

Thank you so much!

As you can tell, the problem is mounting a front sling swivel to the barrel. The bottom of the barrel has that stamped sheet metal spacer in there, and I could not figure out a way to mount a sling to it.

I have seen Italian luparas that just had a leather strap around the barrels in front of the forend. I tried that, but the strap obscured the sight bead.

I carry mine in a shotgun scabbard that has a sling on ths scabbard.

That little coach gun has to be one of my favorite guns, and I could not bring myself to drill or weld anything onto it.

If you don't want to drill or weld anything to the gun, how the heck do you figure you can attach a sling that doesn't obscure the sight? I had a Stoeger Uplander, same basic gun, longer barrels, and I attached a swivel mount to the underside of the barrels and it worked well for several years.

If you are looking at the site, then you are NOT looking at the target and are going to miss. The sling I proffered slips over the barrels with no slings or attachments necessary - as you are looking at the target (whatever that might be), the need to look at a sight is not necessary

Oneounceload, if you can shoot a SxS well with something wrapped around the barrels you are a better man than I am. I don't look at the bead, but the big change in sight picture is way more than I can stand.

I don't use a sling on any of mine, but I have fired a friend's a few times just to see what that was like. It wasn't TOO bad, but you are right in that it tends to interfere with the sight picture somewhat. If you can snug it down enough, the interference is minimal, and I suppose if you practiced with it like that, you would eventually become comfortable with it there

The "spacer", otherwise known as the barrel rib, on two current Stoeger coachguns here is hollow through most of its visible length.
In looking at both, the lower wall thickness is fairly thin, but could possibly be drilled & tapped for a standard sling swivel stud.
Would not have much room for many threads, though.

If I knew where my wife's older Stoeger is, I'd check that one.
All three of my own coachguns (one Stevens & two Baikals) have slings mounted. There's enough material on those ribs to allow it.

You just may be outa luck on the Stoeger.

Denis
