I'm looking for a good trap gun. I'm currently using a Mossberg 500-A, it gets the job done but I'd like a O/U gun as well. What is the verdict on a Stoeger O/U shotgun? Who makes them? Are they a good quality gun? Do they shoot well compared to other O/U shotguns, such as the Citori or Cyngery? Any comments are helpful.

You'll find that the Stoegors are a lower tier gun. Some of there O/U are decent for the money you paid for them bought I wouldnt want it for my trap gun.

You do realize that trap guns have a higher point of impact then feild guns, so I think you would be better suited to find a dedicated trap gun. You could use your Mossy for hunting or other shotgun sports.

IMO, I would look for a used trap grade 870 or 1100. You could also spend a bit more money and buy new if you wanted. I would also check out a used Browning BT-99 or a Bt-100, if you insist on a break open gun. These guns new are a bit more expensive but are still on the cheaper side of brand new trap guns.

I am assuming you are on a budget here, since you were interested in the Stoegor.

Depends which ones. My BT-99 shoots to about the same POI as a Wingmaster field gun.

The Stoeger Condor balances like a Citori, pretty much. Anyone I know who has one, likes it, and has had zero trouble with it. At least four men I shoot trap with use them, and they're all very happy with them, and they score well with them. They're all experienced shooters, so they're not just way too easy to please, and they all have lots of rounds through them.

I know that's anathema to those who have spent many times the money, but it's what I've seen. I don't own a Stoeger, though I've shot them.

Personally, I prefer the Cynergy to the Citori, in 12 Gauge anyway, hands down, any day of the week, as a shooter. I don't know if the Cynergy will have the incredible durability of the Citori, and no one will know that for many years to come.

All of that said, if you shoot well with the Mossberg, keeping up with the Joneses may not improve your score any. It could actually go down. Some of the all-time greats of trapshooting have used pump shotguns to earn their world records.

I SHOT A BUUDY OF MINES STOEGER COMPETITION LAST WEEK FOR 2 ROUNDS OF TRAP. I HIT 25 ON THE SECOND ROUND AFTER MOVING THE COMB UP A BIT. IT IS THE WAY TO GO FOR A REASONABLE TRAP GUN. HE SHOOTS ONCE OR TWICE A MONTH AND HAS NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT. IF YOU ARE GONNA SHOOT ONCE IN A WHILE TRAP OR SPORTING CLAYS, THIS IS THE WAY TO GO. I LIKED THE WIDE TARGET RIB, THE PALM SWELL AND THE PORTING IS AN EXTRA BONUS FOR DOUBLES OR SPORTING CLAYS. IT PROBABLY WON'T HOLD UP TO REGISTERED SHOOTER CYCLE AS I HEAR THAT THE QUALITY OF THE STOEGER RECEIVER MATERIAL IS NOT THAT HARD. I WOULD PAY THE EXTRA 25 BUCKS FOR A LIFETIME WARRANTY THAT ALOT OF SHOPS OFFER. STAY AWAY FROM USED ONES. A NEW ONE IS CHEAP ENOUGH AND YOU GET A GUARANTEE.

Stoeger Condor O/U

I recently bought a Stoeger Condor 12 Ga O/U with a 28" barrel for use in casual trap shooting (not competition). It cost under $300 at Dick's Sporting Goods. It came with 3 chokes: IC, Mod, & Full. I set it up with Mod as U and Full as O barrel.

My first time out with it, I hit 23 out of 25 birds even though the first shot went off prematurely because I was not used to the lighter trigger. It felt good, handled well and patterned consistently. Its not exactly beautiful nor is it engraved but is well put together and definitely a fully functional and useable gun. Needless to say, I LIKE IT!

The only problem was that the extractor was stiff and some shells would hang up on the edge of the chamber on closing the breech. That was fixed by pulling the extractor and filing a ridge off the inside of its guide rods to make it move more smoothly. Then I replaced and lubed the extractor. No more problems!

The other thing I didn't like was that it automatically set the safety each time the breech was opened. This was easily fixed by removing the stock and replacing the "L" shaped rod pushing the safety with a simple 1/2" long pin through the safety and under its spring. The safety now functions properly manually and you cannot tell the difference if you are not looking for the safety to be set when the breech is opened.

I have SxS doubles, a pump and another O/U (by Fausti) and still like the Condor the best for shooting clays. The pretty (and much more expensive) Fausti O/U is now a safe queen.

Take all this for whatever it is worth to you. Another member of my gun club has the same model and he also loves it. :D
