Title says it all. I walked into a restaurant (Carl's BBQ in Houston) for lunch after going to the range, and 10 minutes later someone comes in and says my truck's been broken into. If anyone sees the following rifles for sale please contact me on here or call the Harris County (TX) PD. Missing 2 rifles:

Marlin model 444S (presafety) in 444 Marlin with Nitrex 1.5-5 scope, serial# 71 162166

Savage 110 in 30-06 with Bushnell Ultra HD 3-9x40 scope, serial# F730659

That sucks.

Good luck on their return and good for you in actually reporting it.

I've had 2 returns and one notification of confiscation from a third miscreant in the past so reports are always the way to go.

Were you followed from the range maybe?

I never stop for food coming from ranges or gun shows and always watch my "6" on the way home.

... been followed more than once.

Todd.

That sucks. I would guess someone at the range saw them when you were shooting and followed you hoping for such an opportunity. May want to see if there is any video of the range parking lot and restaurant. Video from the range could help identify suspects based on the cars that left shortly after you. Its a long shot but could pan out. Good Luck.

Best wishes that your rifles turn up. That really sucks. Around my neighborhood? Man, I can't trust leaving anything in my truck anymore. Anyway, good luck in getting your rifles back.

Ron

Wouldn't that be a hell of a deal if it worked out? Good call.

You may want to preemptively contact the local pawn shops and watch the armslist website.

And gun shops.

Once notified, pawnbrokers or gunshops would be knowingly receiving & reselling stolen property (fencing), which is a felony. They're generally not inclined to do so. If they already have them, the only lawful action is for them to relinquish the property to it's rightful owner, which may mean they go through LE hands first, since they are evidence from a crime.

If I go in a place to eat I sit where I can see my truck at all times and CCW always.

A friend of mine just had the police show up and ask if he had a 243 rifle he said yes, They said can we see it, He said yes, He showed it to them they matched serial numbers He bought the gun 3 yrs ago at a pawn shop, They took the rifle and he was out over 400.00 dollars So even if it takes time You might get it back eventually

Got a Beretta .25 back after almost 20 year - and in California of all places.

Also look for cameras at businesses across the street front and on either side of the restaurant.

One other small reminder for anyone reporting stolen property (particularly firearms)... Once that stolen report is entered it's there forever and might eventually result in your weapons being recovered (and whoever had it being prosecuted if that's appropriate...). Remember that the only contact info the original agency will have for you is that first report. If you later move or re-locate make a point of calling or going by the department that you made the original report to and ask them to do a supplementary report listing your new address and contact info.

I ran my Department's property room some years back and every now and then we'd get notified of a weapons recovery (the notification always comes to the outfit that entered the original info into the system). On more than one occasion we were never able to contact the original victim (we'd call, send a card or letter, etc.). After a waiting period with no contact the recovered goods would be destroyed.... Not what you want if you're the victim so make sure to update their contact info if you ever want to hear about that gun again (even sometimes 30 years later....).
