I found a new bag of 100 pieces of 25-06 brass for $40.00 dollars in the bargain cave at Cabillias last night. The brass is in a clear plastic bag and it says, it is made in Serbia. And all it says on the base of the case is PRU 25-06 I think couldn`t read it for sure. I am not familiar with this brass. Does any body use it, and is it worth buying. I need to get my old 25-06 out of the back of the safe and start shooting it again. And 100 pieces of should be enough, to get me reloading some decent loads for my old rifle again. Thanks For Any Help.

Are you sure it doesn't say "PPU" ?

A lot of their headstamps are less than clear....

PPU is serbian, and its REALLY good brass. I use a lot of it in .25-06.

If you could attach a clear photo, that'd be great !

blarby: It probably does read PPU on the base of the case. I couldn`t read thru the thick plastic very well. I am a real Dumb A## when it come to my computer, I can barely turn it off and on. So pictures are out of the question and I don`t even own a camera. What powder and bullets does your 25-06 seen to like the best. I have only shot factory loads in my rifle so far and it seemed to like the 117gr bullets the best. My rifle is a HD Savage Bolt Gun, that so far shoots very good.
Thanks for Your help, I think I had better get back down to the store and buy the brass before someone else does.

cpt t ...

Any of the "slow" powders will work well in the .25/06 .... IMR 4831, IMR 7828, H 4831, H1000, Retumbo, RL22, RL 25 and many others .... in those burn ranges ...

I shot the Sierra 117 gr GKBT with IMR 7828 for many years with really good results ... I have since went with the Nosler 110 gr Accubond under IMR 7828 ... both were deer killers with the Accubond being a more stout bullet ... both were accurate in my rifle....

I've had good luck with PPU in 7x57, 8x57, 7.62x54R, 9x18 makarov, and 30-06. It's not Lapua or Nosler brass, but it's on par with Winchester and Remington.

Some of their older brass is marked ппу (cyrillic script). That shows up every once in a while from older ammunition importers/re-packagers.

If it is PPU, It is decent brass. Their PPU loaded ammo isnt bad either. I took a bunch of it to shoot prairie dogs the first year I went because I got a deal of $0.30/loaded round. I reloaded that same PPU ammo the next year with no issues.

Thanks for the info Guys. My Son and I bought our 25-06 rifle several years ago along with reloading dies, but have not reloaded a single round yet. The rifle came with several boxes of factory ammo. And that is all we have ever shot in it. Our rifle shot an inch or better the way I remembered it, at a 100yds off of a rest with factory 117gr Hornady and 120gr Remington ammo. I was going back out to Caballes to day and buy the bag of 25-06 brass, but my Wife got sick today so I thought I had better stick around the house. I hope they still have it tomorrow. Has any body had any luck with the lighter bullets, such as the 75 & 85gr V-Max`s and Ballistic Tips in there 25-06`s. Thanks again for the information.

The 117gr Hornady SST is a great bullet, and an easy factory load to duplicate using Hornady data for superformance powder.

Personally, I prefer the 90gr GMX owing to my new prerequisite for lead free ammo .

The ppu brass I'm using in .25-06 is at 7 firings and two light trimmings in my Ruger Predator in .25-06, and shows no sign of stopping.

The PPU are very easy to grain weight sort as they are quite consistent and thus easy to batch.

While none of my load books list PPU brass, I used the current Hornady data and substituted PPU cases, starting at the lowest charges, using Superformance , hybrid 100, and H4350 powder.

Once I dig my reloading notes out from the move, I'll be happy to share more data. I just happen to know I'm on 7 firings, as I have that ammo box and the rifle in my car :)

Capt-T ... I am shooting a load listed in Noslers's online data ...

Noslers 85 gr BT ... RL 19 from 53 grs(3360 fps) to 57 gr Max (3600 fps) ... I am shooting 56.5 gr and getting very good accuracy from that bullet ...

Well guys when you snoz you lose. I went back out to the Bargain Cave at Cabillas and of course the 100 piece bag of 25-06 brass was gone. But they had several bags of the same, 100 pieces of brass bags over in the reloading section for $52.00. About $10.00 more, so I am going to check with the guys in the Gun Club I belong to and see if any of them has in 25-06 brass for sale. What I had mine for our 25-06 was another Varmint Rifle, ((( Like We Really Need Another ))). I may get a chance to go out to Colorado this summer and try and to shoot some Rock Chucks again. So I was just thinking, taking a new rifle along that shoot those fast Plastic Tip Bullets would be fun. But as well as our rifle shoots the 117gr bullets I may just be spitting into the wind. Just to many high powered decision to make for this for this Old Burnt Out Shooter to make all at one time. I probably just need to take another mid morning nap. Thanks again for all the help and information guys. And Thanks for letting me belong to your fourm.

Well, fwiw.... you can get ppu .25-06 ammo for $16/20 around these parts.

If the brass is 50cea at cabelas, I know what I'd do...

Grafs also has a good selection of .25-06
