Hi all. I got a new hand assembly and bolt/trigger spring.

After replacing (same happens with original parts) the trigger does not engage when pulling back on the hammer. Basically goes straight to full lock and no movement on the trigger.

Not my first time assembling the revolver but thought I missed something and having a real blonde moment. Followed the steps as per http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=137102&highlight=Colt+Type+Revolver+Disassembly but still no joy.

Any suggestions on how to resolve or photos etc pointing out the correct assembly. (did look at the pic in above thread but could not see exactly where spring sits on step to do comparison)

The spring is the same length as the original. Only difference is its thinner (basically 2 springs to make up thicker one and the tip on long finger bit more bent)

Thanks in advance.
Jacques

check trigger return spring, pushes on top part of trigger, above pivot. If thats ok make sure the 1/2 stand, full stand notches are ok on hammer. If thats ok you got something out of position between hammer and trigger, not allowing full range of movement.

It's easy for the tip of the trigger bolt spring to slip off the platform on the trigger while you are tightening the screw. When you are installingt the trigger bolt spring hold forward on the trigger and make sure the spring is on it's platform. Holod it in that position while you snug the screw.

Thanks guys. Your suggestions made me look at the spring/trigger mating again.
I did put it back correctly but after a few choice words I saw what was wrong.

The spring was pushing too far back on the step and pushing the trigger basically in the wrong direction, away from the notches on the hammer.

I placed the old spring (which is very thing compared to the replacement) back in. This spring is connecting on the correct spot. Placed the new one on top of this one for the correct tension and all is working again :)

The trigger arm of the spring is too long. Replacement parts makers often make that arm extra long so it can be fitted to adjust for slightly different triggers and frame sizes.

Your blond moment comment is rude and uncalled for. Bigotry for hair color or skin color is not called for.

Sorry you feel that way. I am blonde (though bit more sandy lately) so did not mean to disrespect anyone. Was referring to myself and one of my moments.

Back to the cocking problems. Thanks for the comments. Assume I'll have to work down the spring to the correct length then?

Ordered a hand assembly as well. Assume that I will likely have to do some work on this as well? Have not check yet (moved house so still unpacking boxes :( )
