Stun Gun Ban To End in NJ

The stun gun ban to end in New Jersey due to a 2016 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court declaring similar restrictions in Massachusetts to be unconstitutional.

Well it's better than pepper spray but it's a still a far cry from getting a regular carry permit in that state as it is still essentially no issue for law abiding residents. Some of the stun ban restrictions will include minors, felons and the mentally ill.

As expected (in New Jersey), some law officials are against the ruling entirely and some other LEO's want an Firearms ID Card to be required while others say that no permits or permission should be attached to this.

So when will the ban end? Over on Evan Nappen's Facebook page, comments say the ban ends today Oct 20. Those who don't know, Evan is the famous NJ gun attorney who is well versed on New Jersey's gun laws. He has helped out several clients in high profile cases that have achieved national attention.

New Jersey Second Amendment Society president Alexander Roubian said

“We were adamant about fighting to make sure there was no permits or permission from the government attached to this,” Roubian said, citing the 2015 murder of a South Jersey woman who was waiting for a firearms permit as reasoning. “We feel this is very important in regard to allowing people to protect themselves.”

What do you mean by stun guns?

Do you mean an actual dart shooting device that has attached lines to deliver voltage that one fires like a pistol? Such as the brand name Taser type devices? Actually not sure if anyone else makes such a device.

Those tend to be more expensive than many handguns and basically depending on the model one or two shot.

Do you mean a hand held version of basically a cattle prod that one presses onto an attacker and shocks? These are "everywhere" on the market, fairly cheap and honestly not that effective.

Long time THR folks know I am not crazy about pepper spray......but given the choice between even the smallest, say Red Saber can o'capsicum and 90 percent of the available "cattle prod" types I would go with the little can. A much greater chance of stopping the assailent. Shoot even on the remaining cattle prods I am getting too old and feeble to want a bludgeon the size and shape of a four D cell Maglite any more so I guess ANY of those things would fail to me in a contest with the Pepper spray.

What does the state of NJ mean by the title?
