Oddly enough, a downwardly-plunging firey handbask
What does all the different names of the types of holsters mean? I know what IWB and OWB is, but what is a paddle holster? There are so many different types of them, that they are all different in a way. Any examples of the materials (besides leather) too?

I figure if I am going to be carrying next year I may as well have a mental image of the holster someone mentions like I do with big-name guns (ie 1911, 92fs, Glock anything ;)).

I know, no stupid question except an unasked one...

I think IWB stands for 'inside the waistband' and OWB means 'outside the waistband'.

There are a lot of ways to carry a pistol and you need to decide which is best for your bodyshape, pistol size, level of concealability, etc. Get on one of the websites like Galco or Safariland or Bianchi and see what they offer....I'm sure there would be tons of stuff on definitions and all.

Sheldon is correct. Also, a paddle holster is a regular holster but instead of utilizing belt loop holes, it is mounted on a "paddle" that you slip over your belt and pants. These are good if you plan to remove your holster a lot during the course of the day. Easy on, easy off. I don't care for them. As always, these are available if leather and Kydex and other plastics.

Good information passed on so far.
IWB=In Waist Band or inside the pants carry.

OWB= Outside Waist Band or anything thats not IWB, including Belt styles/pancakes/paddles etc.

Paddles are either loved or not. Personally I think they are a great design..but very few Holster Companies make a paddle that stays put well during daily carry and draw. Most of the cheaper ones come up drawn with your gun once in a while.......
SafariLand makes a very good paddle, as good as Ive seen and used.

They are not recommended for CCW at they will print as much as anything will. I have one I wear with my long leather jacket that works. It tucks in at 4.30-5.00 pretty good....but its one of the more exceptional ones Ive found.

Shoot well..........

p.s for a quick summary of holster details....click on the link below and click Custom on the left...it gives brief desc's of alot of what goes into a holster and choosing one.

Kydex ..... Fobus ...... paddle for me is great! They do have two very effective retaining projections and altho some find the effort of overcoming retention a problem ... for me the fast intertial ''snappy'' draw releases my P series no probs ..... and the holster never comes with it.

To me ... beauty of the paddle is that fine adjustment you can't always make on the belt with an IWB or OWB ... cos of damn belt loops!!

;)
TallPine is partially correct.
Wooden paddles = leather
Plastic paddles = Kydex or other synthetic materials
TallPine...buy you books, send you to school ....:D

Many fine websites that will have FAQ:For starters...

If you are interested ..... I zipped up my various gun/shooting faves (not overly well ordered i have to say) ...... but if you would like that file .... happy to let you have it ..... could do that thru PM if you so wished. Might help a bit - faves are from IE BTW.

P95Carry,
Why yes, thank you.
I was going to approach Preacher also but...
My ISP is doing some updating, I have been getting kocked off, plus the mail server is being improved also.
(explains why if some are not getting replies from me, now you know why).
I'm at the college lab , so I may wait till tommorrow to try and get this stuff at home. I ( unfortuantley) have xppro and ie...need for school, when the money comes in I'll go Linux and perhaps firebird... arrrgh...still have to use what school req's.

Never know what sheeple may be watching...showed a classmate the Galco website, her friend thought the purses and backpacks were neat...sheesh...glad we were not on the "other" page ...paddle holsters for 3913s...:)

Quick eddycashun - go visit Galco, Bianchi, FIST, or any other holster makers' sites & browse their catalogs, it will all become clear very quickly. Which works best for you & your body, well, that's the hard part. Enjoy the research;)

And make sure you set a fair-sized box aside NOW, for the "dead holster pile". You know, those ones that looked like they'd work SO well, but just didn't work out.

You'll end up with a "dead holster pile"...just wait and see.
