I'm sitting at home Friday after noon working in the kitchen on my computer and I hear a metal clanking sound out side my back door. It wasn't loud, it sounded like tools or something. And then the door moved a little like it was being tested. So I get up and look out the peep hole and I see a person crouched down on the other side.

I walk back to my desk open a small box containing a pistol and rack the slide on a 45, grab a second mag and look out again. I see the guys head move a little around. Still crouching down in front of the door.

So I think real fast about the situation.

Why would there be someone hiding below my door and making strange metal clanking sounds, trying my door? And what appeared to be looking around behind himself? I'm also armed so I'm not to worried, just concerned a bit about the situation. Basically I'm ready if something is amiss.

My back door immediately goes out to a concrete walkway with a wall about 3.5 feet high and follows the length of the house. (the back of the house is sunken down a bit into the back yard) So if someone were to crouch down they would be unseen from anybody around.

The strange thing is there is nobody back there ever. Its my yard and a greenbelt about 20 feet away that leads to fields and forests. There are neighbors on either side but nothing straight back. Its a upper middle class country area about 20 miles outside of a metro area. Its a nice neighborhood.

I unlock the door and open it real fast. The door is open about 6-8 inches with my boot against the floor as a brace. The said 45 is pointed through the door at the possible BG.

I see a guy right there on the ground kinda kneeling against my door. I say in loud voice looking right down at him about two feet away "WHAT THE FU%K ARE YOU DOING OUT HERE" The guy looks up and I see another person to the left take off out of the corner of my eye but I keep focusing on this person in front of me

The guy which I now see is a teenager about 15-17, is basically scared ?????less. Apartently I startled him :) Keep in mind the weapon is in no view, its still behind the door pointed at this person.

It turns out these two kids were using my back yard to smoke there dope. The guy reaches for his friends pipe and stash to split and I tell him not to move with colorful language.

The other guy left his stuff on the ground and bailed. The kid says "were not doing anything" I ask him his name and where he lives, I tell him to get out of here, don't touch that and leave. The kid leaves the drugs and pipe thing and gets on his bike - that was the metal noise I heard when he apparently set it down or moved it around.

This kid and friend were thinking there wasn't anyone home at my place and it was a cool spot to use as a place to get high. So about 30 minutes later after I found out where the kid lives I see his father washing his car and I walk up to him and I say wait right here. I have something to give you. I go back to my shed and grab the kids the stuff and start to explained to the father what happened earlier.

I said to him I heard a noise and I thought it might be a burglar and took up means to protect myself and my property. I never mentioned a pistol and no one ever saw a pistol.

The guy knew pretty much what I was talking about without to much explanation. He was kinda speechless because I was straight forward and wasn't really messing around.

He knew his kid was on another mans property using illegal drugs and there was a possible defensive weapon in close proximity to his kid. Actually there was a loaded 45 about 1 to 2 feet away from his kids head about 30 minutes before.

I told him its his responsibility to take disciplinary action this first time, if it was in fact the first time. Next time I'm calling the cops if I find someone on my property or around my belongings. And if someone breaks into my place bad things will happen to that person.

I spoke with the kids dad again today and he said the other guy was being sought after by the cops for drugs (meth)and minor theft and his kid will not be any problem again. He said that his boy just started hanging out with this guy.

The guy was nice and thanked me for leaving it up to him. He turned out to be a nice guy. Hes a local fireman in the small town close by.

I all ways say you never expect these things to happen when they do. I was so focused on my work at the time I was in no way thinking that there would be people outside my place and one being a criminal on Friday

Especially in my neighborhood.

Im glad things worked out the way they did. Hopefully this kid will straigten up.

I remember a time when a neighborhood dad would see you acting up or whatever and he would knock you around if he had to. Then tell your old man then you would get it worse. (can't do that anymore!)

I hope this kid does straighten out and his dad appreciates what you did by not calling the cops.

I think you did the right thing. Bravo.

You did do the right thing. Even if I did something like what those kids do, I would be more afraid of my parents dissapoinment then the wrath of a stranger.

Sounds crazy. But that's me.

Once I got into a really bad fight with someone at school (they hit me first and ended by on the ground after getting hit by a desk a few times) and I didn't mind the suspension, but the worst part was the shame of facing your parents. The greatest disciplinary technique I have ever been the subject of is that I was made to call home and tell my parents what I did was wrong.

Hopefully, there is no next time. But something you might consider is taking this kid to his dad and making him tell his dad what happened. Just a thought.

You don't sound like the bug eyed kid who began posting a short time ago. You sound like a creepy old guy who gets his kicks posing as children. If you are a kid and I was your parent I'd be knocking you on your ??? about now.

My humble apologies. I am in full possession of my faculties and indeed have erred. I do apologize to 12.7, for in reading his post was sure that it had been posted by Winston Smith..the new young fellow. And to him I apologize for an errant implication.
Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I'll take any punishment you care to mete. I deserve it.

12.7x99mm,

According to the Drug Warriors, your property should now be confiscated because it was involved in a drug-related crime...

Don't your folks believe in self-defense? Seems to me that, if you were attacked without provocation, the least you can do is to stop aggression by dissuading or by incapacitating the attacker. Any lumps perps incur in the process are wages of their own conduct.

KMKeller,

Have heart! With practice and patience, you will achieve...

My humble goal in life is to live long enough to be the person that neighborhood kids talk about in hushed whispers like: "Oh, crap! Our frisbee landed in Miss Tamara's yard! Better forget about going to get it, she's crazy; she just lives alone with those cats and all those guns..." :D

*pictures Tamara screaming senselessly with an armload of cats, throwing them periodically at children ala The Simpsons*

Yeah I thought of drugs on the property thats why I dumped the stuff out on the wet grass and kept the pariphnaila for proof in a bag.

I went as far as putting gloves on as well so finger prints wouldn't be there. Having a CCP and all.

I put them in the outside shed. No way that junk is coming in my place.

Your absolutely right. Drugs in the home of a gun owner means bad things for said gun owner. One gram of pot and your considered a arm narcotics dealer. And everything you ever worked for is gone.

I don't let people in my place that I don't know about incase they have drugs with them.

Now if they have beer thats different

Hey, Mr. Wesen. It kind of makes people uncomfortable when you tell them that you would be hitting them if you were their parent. Keep that in mind.

Oleg: Yes, my parents believe in self defense. But they also believe (correctly so) that avoidance is better. So they were dissapointed that I couldn't avoid the situation. Besides.. I'm a tough little guy. If I can take the first hit, I usually do. Makes it alot easier.

The situation was, this guy was a bully. He would threaten me all through 7th grade. When I came back for 8th grade I was 3 inches taller and about 20 lbs heavier. He started to do the old bully crap, and I wanted to send a message to him and anybody else that they shouldn't mess with me.

I don't know how it was when you grew up, but its usually the winner that gets in more trouble. Not the attacker, the winner.

My goal is somewhat similar. But I want countries to think that of me.

BTW, my father would have been mad at me for not kicking the bully's ???. As he once put it "If someone ever starts a fight with you, I want to see blood on him."
