I just got a deal on Hodgdon 335 powder and am looking for load suggestions. Of course I'll do my own test loads and have 40, 50, 55, and 63gr bullets, but would like to hear from you guys. I'll be shooting them thru my Remington 700 VSF .223 with 26" barrel. As always, I appreciate your help.

Same rifle, same twist. I never had much luck with bullets over 55 grain and I tried a lot of bullets. Using H335 with 53 grain Sierra HPBT Match I had some real nice tight (well sub MOA) @ 100 yards loading 26.1 grains. Best group was with CCI #41 primers. Matter of fact I tried that load using 4 different CCI small rifle primers and here is what I got.

Thank you for the detailed info.

It was just a load I collected data on and using the same rifle you have so I had it handy. Just something to try in your rifle and see how it plays out.

For a 16" AR-15 I use most any 55gr FMJ bullet over 25.0gr H335.

For a 22" bolt action rifle I like the Sierra 55gr GK over 25-26gr Varget. (Sierra #1390) That combination produces subMIT groups @200 yards.

I'll have to try it in my 18" AR-15 with some 63gr Sierra too. When I bought the H335 (at a very cheap price) I was hoping to find an alternative to Varget, which is currently impossible to find. I load for 3 different .223s, so hope it will work in least one of them.

I use H335 with 3 different 55gr bullets in a 16" AR. The Sierra Pro-Hunter and the Nosler Varmegeddon both provide less than 1 MOA if I do my part. Hornady FMJBT not as good as to be expected with a FMJ but acceptable for fun stuff. Loads are all between 23.5 and 25gr. You find a lot of people are shooting 55gr bullets with 25gr of H335.

I tried 335 with a 55 grain JSP bullet and it was an OK load with 25.3 grains. Then I tried some Tac. The groups in three diffetent rifles were so much better I never went back. Hope you have better results than I did.
In looking back at my old records, I had a similar result to Frogo's, and also switched over to Ramshot TAC. I did note some very good performance with H-335 and 40 gr Hornady V-Max and Nosler Ballistic Tips in a 1 in 12" twist bolt gun at maximum charge weights (or even a little over Hodgdon current listed max). YMMV.

Ramshot TAC is good stuff, meters well. Shoots better than H335 for me as well.

H335 is real popular for .223 in ARs, meters well.
