Folks, I seem to have created a monster and I don't know what to do with it.
I introduced my wife to shooting and she loves it. She is fairly good with a .38 Special and a 12 gauge, and now she's getting interested in rifles. Awhile back she brought a Spanish '93 Mauser in 7mm home because she just liked the way it felt when she shouldered it. It's a good one, an Oberndorf, but the barrel was pretty well shot out. So we're going to rebarrel it (in 7mm).
Last weekend she talked with her sister and found that Baby-sister had bagged an elk this past season. Now my wife wants to go hunting. Here's where the problem comes up.
While my wife is a pretty good at klling targets, she doesn't have to worry about them running away after an off-center shot. But reaching across the receiver to work the bolt as her wounded elk is on the way to the next time zone might be more of a challenge than she's up to.
So, I'm looking for a rifle, about the same size as her Spaniard, but with a left-handed bolt. Does anybody know of anything like that? The local gun shop has bunches of leftie Remingtons, but the price tags all start with the number "7" and for another nickle would rate an "8". I can buy an awful lot of meat for 800 bucks, and it's already cut up!
