He is mistaken. You can carry a Cara Cara tip up or tip down. Just look at this picture:

Also, there are THREE versions of the Cara Cara. The FRN version only weighs 3.8 oz.

And yes, it is made in China. And yes, it's blade steel isn't the greatest, but it is adequate.

For the money, you can't go wrong.

Wait, it looks a bit *more* like the Endura than the Cara Cara. Looks like SOG ripped Spyderco off better than Spyderco ripped themselves off.
