I'd like to start a discussion of the history
of the Double Stack 9MM Parabellum aka 9MM
LUger or just 9x19 chambered handguns that
have the staggered or 'double stack' magazines,
First of course
1935 Browning Hi-Power or Pistole P-35
Seems there was a requirement by the french for the
HIgh cap magazine but they backed out of the deal
and it was adopted by the Belgians. Didn't the
French have the MAB 35 or something by Peders? with
the slide indie the frame that pre-dated the Sig 210 ?
Perhaps we'll get clarification on the French double stack
in the early days.
THe second Double stack I can think of is the S&W 59 that
came out of US Navy trials in the mid-60s though it wasn't adopted
S&W introduced the model 59 in 1970.
Hmm,
1975 - the CZ 75
when did the Beretta 92 come along with it's heel mag release
prior to the mag release behind the trigger guard ?
of course the Glock 17 was early 80s much the late comer....
What say ye? I'm probably forgetting some POS Hi cap guns that
are best footnotes....\
