I hope this thread is in the correct place.

I carry a Shield 40 S&W. For me, I feel it is the smallest size (physical dimensions, not caliber) that I am comfortable with. I carry it in a kydex holster. Prior to this, I've had other holsters, including a kydex/leather hybrid. The current holster does it for me. I've what I think is a decent leather belt too.

The problem is, when I carry for long periods of time, which is usually all day, my pants sag. They don't sag to thug/rapper level, just lower than I am comfortable with.

If I tighten my belt, depending on my pants, it tends to get uncomfortable, like I am trying to keep my upper insides from escaping.

Does anyone use suspenders when carrying? Or, do I need to rethink the belt situation?

Thanks,

MC

Been carrying a gun for 60 years. Developed a chronic case of "noassatall" over the years.

Been wearing suspenders and a belt for over 30 years. I carry heavy steel hand guns.

Welch's Ergonomic Safety Suspender.

These have velcro loops around the belt.. Perfectly flat. You don't know they are there.

Perry Suspenders. They have hooks that go around and under the belt, rather than alligator clips that mess up the waistband of your pants. Plus, it supports the belt where the weight of the pistol is, not your pants which are merely in close proximity to the belt.

Several threads here on THR about them, everybody (including me) that has them seems to like them.

I wear suspenders when carrying at times, they can help with back pain also. I gave up on the junky ones with clips, it only takes 20 minutes to sew on the 6 buttons to use truly good suspenders. Mine are leather with a pretty heavy elastic section in the back.

I took a look at those Perry suspenders, they are no joke!

I was thinking I might be able to invent some or create a new method for concealed carrying but those seem perfect to a T.

Thanks for the info.

I have the perry's and they are good. If you're handy with a needle and thread, you can sew buttons onto your pants and use button suspenders (I prefer them most).

I joined the suspenders crowd a few years ago. They feel odd at first, then you wonder how you got along without them.

Are we talking CC or OC here... because people notice things that are unusual... and suspenders are unusual. They don't scream GUN as much as a fanny pack on a guy without kids does... but it's a pretty close second.

I think the concept may be to wear a t-shirt tucked in, the suspenders over the t-shirt, and a cover garment over the suspenders, such as an untucked, button up square bottom shirt like a Hawaiian shirt. Nobody, but you would know you had suspenders on.

A tucked-in shirt requires the suspenders to be on top. An untucked shirt requires the suspenders to be inside against your skin.

I wear cheap stretchy K-Mart suspenders under a polo shirt. Depending on what shirt and what I'm doing sometimes the suspenders will print. The rest of the time, my wife says nobody could tell.

I'm a leaner guy and have this trouble if my belt needs replacing due to a bad case of noassatall syndrome. I have worn suspenders to carry an X frame on my hip but not a ccw. Doesn't mean it's a bad idea though.

Go for it man.

I've been using "undershirt suspenders" for about a year now. They're soft, thin, and stretchy, like ace bandage, and don't print, even under a t-shirt. I use the ones with plastic clips. Suspenders.com

I like the Dickies button down work shirts, suspenders underneath, with an undershirt so the suspenders don't rub directly against my skin.

The material of the Dickies shirt is heavy enough that it doesn't blow in the wind, and as a work shirt, doesn't look out of place untucked.

Even an undershirt, suspenders and a large T-shirt works.

The suspenders don't have to be visible, but I see them more and more, along with bow ties, making a comeback in men's fashion. So looking "out of the ordinary" isn't really such a big deal.

I'm looking at these for my next pair.

Anybody using those two-attachment-point Duluth Trading suspenders have problems with the clips and holster/mag pouch positioning?

While it seems convenient to have only two attachment points, it seems as if they sit just about where most would place their holster/mag pouch (not counting the AIWB and SOB carry crowds).

Around here most people would assume you were a carpenter or one of the trades if you were seen wearing suspenders. I'll have to look into those Perrys.

I’ve been doing the suspender bit for about 3+ years now with the clip on the waistband style. I would like to try the button style, but haven’t because of the number pants that would need all those buttons. I’m definitely going to look at those that loop or hook onto the belt. The suspenders over an undershirt with a cover button-up shirt on top does a good job of hiding both the suspenders and OWB gun. The only down side is if you need to go poop in a public restroom.

Twiki357, it's a legitimate concern and can be confounding if you're not used to suspenders or haven't given it any thought until "the moment". So I'll tell you what I do.

Slide clips (I use Perry suspenders) off belt, front and back.
Take care of business.
Hold the cover shirt up, tuck in the undershirt and button your pants.
Reattach the suspenders and pull the cover shirt back into place.
Check your fly. I forget sometimes.
