After about 20 to 30 shots my .45 auto 625 will start to bind up. I am shooting 230 gr.cast bullets with tite group powder. If I shake the revolver it will go ahead and index to the next round. any suggestions?

I had a similar problem with one of my 625's and cast bullets. Turns out my barrel to cylinder gap was a bit snug.

A couple .002" Precision Stainless Steel Endshake Bearings from www.powercustom.com moved the cylider back just enough. I can now go through a 300 round range session with no binding.

Alternatively... you can have a gunsmith stretch the yoke barrel a bit, to accomplish the same thing.

BTW: A yellow lead remover cloth works great for cleaning the front of the cylinder and the back of the barrel. A good cleaning may be all you need.

Good Luck...

625 .45 Auto binding -- Are you/what kind of moon clips are you using with your .45 Auto(ACP) ammo. Does the same thing happen with .45 Auto Rim cartridges?

I dont know the brand of moon clips, I got them at a gun show, 10 for 10 dollars. I have never fired any auto rims, so I dont know how they will work.

JoeHatley,

the endshake washers may be what I need, I could just get a .003" feeler between the cylinder and the barrel, a .004 won't go at all, after I used a yellow lead turbo cloth. Thanks Randall

There are many different kinds of moon clips now --over the last 50 years first with a 1917 S&W and now a 4-5 year old 625 N frame my experience is the moon clips are usually the culprit when binding occurs. Shaking that improves the problem makes me more suspecious that that is the problem. Moon clips become bent easily both on loading and also de mooning. Some come bent. I have used several loaders and de mooners over the years and they all seem to eventually become associated with binding bent loaded clips.

I have shot multiple different comercial brands and also many different hand loads in my 625s including 255 lead FP with out problem.

My suggestion is to buy a box or 2 of .45 Auto Rim cartridges which do not require moon clips and see if you have the same problem with out any moon clips. If not you know where the problem is. I know they are more expensive than .45 ACP. I do not use them routinely.

A 625 is great for Bowling Pins.

The lead away cloth for clean up and even cut into patches for barrel swabs is a good idea. I use them on all my revolvers.

Good luck with this. I hope the problem is the moon clips and cleaning rather than something inherent in the revolver.
