Have some questions regarding the SW1911 9mm pistol:

1.I've read that you can't remove the extractor from yout SW1911 without some special tools, you have to send your pistol back to the factory if it breaks. You can't use a simple metal pin and a hammer to take the extractor pin out? Is it really true? You can't purchase a spare extractor from Smith & Wesson nor any other spare parts??? :(

2. What about its durability (SW1911 9mm)? Has anyone fired 10Ks of rounds through it? Any broken parts???

3. Does it also have a stainless steel barrel? What about its bigger brother in .45?

4. Regarding the other parts, like the magazine release button, safeties, slide stop are they protected with some kind of brunition finish or they are classically blued or they are also made of stainless steel?

Thanks

I have no idea, but I have the hots for one. The .45 version has a good rep. I am interested in the answers as well.

I kinda want one too. I've heard no real complaints about the S&W 45 1911s. I like the way this looks.

This model hasn't been out long enough for someone to run 10,000 rounds thru 1 yet, I'd imagine.

I have a custom 1911 that is 9mm. But, I've been looking at this model too - to have another 9mm 1911 that doesn't cost as much.

It is an external extractor which could explain the difficulty.

As to why Smith and Wesson wont release parts I will never know......or do I already? Yeah.

S&W's external extractor has been around since their first autoloading pistols in the 1950s and is very reliable. However, should it break, it is true that it is not serviceable "in the field" without special tools and expertise. I see no reason why a gunsmith with both should not be able to handle the job.
