I am comparing them and have a specific question about the trigger designs. Not the price, shape, country of manufacture. Just about the trigger.

The SW99 has traditional DA/SA, right?? And the SW990L has a "short double action" which is exactly the same as the Walther Quick Action (QA), right??

And, is it possible that the nifty trigger-pull chart on the Walther site is valid for the S&W version? Thanks to those who impart wisdom about this subject.

But the P99 has 3 distinct trigger versions, and I think SW99 has only 2. So I am trying to discover whether the QA method of the P99 matches either of the 2 SW99 versions that the S&W website shows.

Of course, websites always have the latest and most up-to-date info on them, don't they :)

No real help Bart but - I can say that the trigger on my SW99 is very acceptable - it's a nice compact gun. If you want more info such as S/N etc I can let you know. I do not have a specific purchase date to go on.

I have both the SW99 with DA/SA trigger and the Walther P99QA. Either gun shoots with greater accuracy than I expected for a 3+ inch barrelked pistol. It gets down to your own mindset on trigger preference. I can shoot equally well (or poorly) with both trigger systems.

Well, considering that Walther America (aka Smith & Wesson) has stopped importing the AS because they want to focus the market on the QA version, I'd say the answer is "yes". Pretty soon, all you're going to find is the QA model -- in either SW99 or P99. Walther is still manufacturing the AS, but S&W won't be importing any more. They are pushing the QA-style trigger action -- whether they start calling it an SW99 QA or something different. The "traditional" DAO will be phasing out, too. So all the mechanisms will be "Glock-like" with a constant-pull DA trigger.
