im looking to reproduce the military stock on my mosin nagant carbine in a bedded, free-floated synthetic version.. i like the shape, feel, and styling of the military stock, but i dont want to modify the origional... is it possible to carve such a stock out of a block of synthetic material?.... another idea i had was to carve it out of a block of rigid foam and then coat in either fiberglass, or carbon fiber for strength and rigidity, while keeping it almost weightless.. but personally id prefer to buy a block of polymer the right length, width, and height for the project, trace my military stock onto it, then run it though a jigsaw or bandsaw, route out the outline for action and magazine, bed, and rasp the edges smooth.... would this be doable? (itll also be free-floated)

Your chance of success is pretty slim unless you are an accomplished stock maker already.

Why not just buy one already made?

If you want a military style stock, buy another surplus wood one, reduce it's size slightly by sanding, and cover it with glass cloth & epoxy.
Instant synthetic stock with a wood core.
