Taking Stock off Remington 870

I just purchased an older Remington 870 Wingmaster with a folding stock w/pistol grip. I plan on taking it off to first get the frame and barrel refinished and then install a different stock. How do I take this stock off? Any simple instructions?

The stock should be attached with a normal bolt (ether hex-head or slot-head) through the top of the pistol-grip at an angle into the back of the receiver. Sin that off (you may need a longer one to mount the new stock), and the rear part will be free. To take the forearm off, you'll have to strip the shotgun down and take of the forearm with the action bars attached. There's a little threaded collar inside the front of the forearm that holds the wood one, and you can spinn that collar out with a pair of needle-nose held at the correct spacing (there IS a wrench available, but unless you're doing this on a regular basis, you don't really need the wrench.) HTH.

Frosty, I've found the stock bolt is sometimes a little hard to get out. I finally gave up and bought the socket-like bit that Brownells sells and the tool for the forearm nut as well (no more 'oops' moments there). If you need them, I could loan them to you. E me on the back channel if you want to.

Unfortunately I see NO bolts or screws through the pistol grip itself. Since I am getting ready for an NRA Instructors Course this weekend I have to put this on the back burner.

It MIGHT have an adaptor that attaches through the bottom of the pistol-grip; is there a cap on the bottom of the grip?
