Talk to me about my Sendra AR15!

First of all Hello--this is my first post.

I just bought an AR15 with a lower made by Sendra Corp, Barrington, IL. On the left side it is marked XM15 E2. It has almost a purple tint to it. It is SN 073XX. It has the plain A1 style pistol grip that is not ribbed in the back. The mag release button does have the raised fence.

The upper is a preban 20" Colt with thin barrel and A1 six-slot flash suppressor. I know it is a Colt upper becuase the letters "C" and M" are just beneath the A1 windage dial. The upper has no foward assist nor shell deflector. The handguards are round and shiny. The barrel is marked "CMP Chrome Bore" near the suppressor.

One peculiar thing is that the selector actually covers up the word "semi" no matter what position the selector is in. Additionally, someone used an alphabet die set to mark "hold on" in the place where auto or burst would normally be on an M16. However, the selector does not actually turn to the "hold on" position.

It is in very good condition and I paid $750 for it. I would like to know more about the reputation and history of this particular model.

I know that Sendra did M16 conversions before the '86 ban, but I don't really see them mentioned for any other reason.

Sounds like someone wanted a custom lower. I've thought about engraving ROCK 'N ROLL where AUTO or BURST would normally be :D

If it shoots good and looks good, I'd say it probably wasn't a bad buy.

EDIT: Reading the abov response, and the HOLD ON, I almost wonder if it is possible that the reciever is registered as a MG, and someone swapped out the FA parts. Probably not the case, but if it is :uhoh:

Jerry Drasen = Sendra = Nesard

Mr. Bartlett told me that another one of the vendors of supplies to Howell, Nesard Gun Parts Co., 27 West 990 Industrial Road, Barrington, Illinois, has also been the subject of an ATF investigation. Officer of that company, Gerald Grayson, Cynthia Aleo, and Anthony Aleo all plead guilty to ATF charges. The Nesard Company which owned Sendra Corporation was shipping AR-15 receivers through the Sendra Corporation, along with part kits from the Nesard Company. When these parts are assembled it resulted in the manufacture of a short barreled rifle. Even though the above subjects are convicted felons they continue to conduct business because the Nesard Gun Parts Co. distributes gun parts and not firearm

Tony Aleo now runs M&A

Cynthia runs Model1

Hmmm, XM15E2 is a Bushmaster marking usually. Wonder if Sendra ever did any lowers for them?

Sounds like your Colt upper is an older 1/12 twist 20" barrel. Maybe one of those recently reimported into the U.S. by Century Arms?

My M16 is a Sendra that was converted by Bushmaster.
Is says, SAFE-SEMI-AUTO.

Someone may have put a drop-in-auto-sear at one point. That would explain the "Hold On".

As long as there are no FA parts, and there is no sear hole drilled, you're ok.

I almost wonder if it is possible that the reciever is registered as a MG, and someone swapped out the FA parts. Probably not the case, but if it is

Who would let a $10,000 gun go for $700, and without any paperwork?

This is fascinating! I kinda like the fact there's a bit of controversy attached to this Sendra. Also, aside from one company not being able to weld on the reciever, I've not heard a lot of negative comments. I don't anticipate getting any welding done so this is a non-issue for me, but thanks all the same.

I have confirmed that all internals are AR15 parts. I will be adding triangular handguards to complete the rifles "Vietnam Era" appearance. This babe is a keeper and conversation piece to boot!

Looking forward to more of your comments.

Hilarious... replying to a 4-year-old post... Sendra is a solid well-made lower receiver if you can still get them...
