Ok, folks, I need help with this one. I recently picked up a Tanfoglio P19 L pistol in 40 cal for virtually nothing. It is in like-new condition, has adjustable sights and a rail, and shoots very well. I am a pushover for CZ 75s and their compact and subcompact versions, which made this gun appealing.

But I know virtually nothing about this particular make and model as most of the websites coming up on google are foreign and in languages other than English.

So, can anyone tell me about the gun beyond the obvious similarities to the CZ 75?

Well, I knew I had something of an anomaly, but I figured someone, somewhere had run into this particular model at some point. I guess I need to do a review....

I used to own a Tanfoglio in .41AE. The barrel cracked after a few hundred rounds right in the middle of a competition...

Huh, that does not sound promising.... Well, I have 5 or 600 rounds of 40 cal stashed away. I will spend some trigger-time with the gun and see what transpires. Maybe I will have better luck. Regardless whether it holds up or not, it is ultimately a safe queen. I prefer carry, not competition, guns, and my significant ammo inventory is in 9s, .22s, and 45s and not 40 cal....

Thanks for your contribution, Gil.

v35 beat me to it. The CZ Clone Club forum will probably get you better answers. I have four Tanfoglio pistols, all imported by EAA as Witness pistols, two Elite Matches, a P Carry, and a P-S. The Matches are superb pistols and the polymer ones are good shooters too. I wouldn't let news of a barrel split with a short-lived obsolete cartridge dampen your enthusiasm for your pistol. Tanfoglio's quality has only gotten better since the 41 AE was discontinued and that problem may have been ammo related. Sounds like you got a smokin' deal on a fine piece.

Hi, that was about 24 years ago BTW.. interestingly a guy from IMI had a spare barrel at that competition (IPSC) and gave it to me...

What do you want to know?

I just googled that exact model, and mechanically/internally, it looks identical to the Elite series I shoot in competition.

Parts availability is not a problem these days.

It is based on the CZ design, but it is NOT a clone... only a couple minor springs are interchangeable, so if you are looking for parts, make sure you are buying the right ones.

Get current production Mecgar magazines, and if you are getting factory magazines, make sure they are marked "K40"... those are current production and function very well. Some of the older magazines have a bad reputation.

Most would consider them to be a bit big and heavy for carry.

Thank you for the info. General information is what I wanted, and you have given that. Agreed on carry unsuitability, but that role is already filled by a CZ RAMI and CZ Compact. This one I will probably use for range and informal competition. Thanks again.
