I got the 6.5" barrel stainless version two years ago for $465, and have been very happy with it. Put about 500 rounds through it so far and never a hiccup. About 400 of those rounds were 9mm, the other 100 were .357 mag.

Was making recommendations to a friend for affordable wheelguns, and recommended the 692 to him. But apparently they don't seem to exist anywhere. Did Taurus stop making them? Or just backlogged on orders? The only ones I could find for sale outside of obvious scam sites were on Gun Broker and the cheapest one is an auction that starts at $750.

Anyone seen one recently in the wild at a LGS?

I believe they are still cataloged, but hard to get. Most i see are the snubies.
I just gave mine to a friend, but i really liked the gun.

Taurus revolvers like the 692 and 942 really dried up during the pandemic and have stayed that way ever since. Heck, even the PT92 was scarce as hell for a time, just recently they started coming back.

My belief is Taurus has focused on polymer pistols for two years because they could make a lot of them and turn a good profit doing so. With the economy slowing down and there likely being no major changes at the federal level with gun laws I see the record sales of guns dropping and with it supply being able to catch up.

I recently recommended one to a friend, and he asked his LGS to source one for him. He had it in had within the month. I don't remember what price he paid, but I remember thinking that it was "reasonable for a Taurus". So it couldn't have been anything too terrible.

Taurus has been producing (and selling, apparently) a ton of their Model 856 revolvers lately.

It's similar to their old j-frame Model 85, but holds six shots.

That's probably what their revolver production is focused on right now.
