Stopped at LGS today and fondled a Taurus Lever Action stainless chambered in .357/.38. Been thinking of picking up something like this for range duty. Thinking it might be fun with .38's and easy to shoot. It was $549. I have no Taurus experience, or lever action pistol caliber rifles. Any thing I need to be aware of while considering purchasing this?

I did order an Uberti SAA in .357 while I was there. Don't want it to get lonely.

I've owned two of these. Both chambered for .45 Colt. I sure wish you could shoot it first. Quality control is spotty. Many have issues with them others run like tops. I traded one off several years ago (marked Rossi) when I got out of cowboy action shooting. Its magazine spring would compress occasionally and cause cartridges to not feed.

I purchased another saddle ring, big loop, lever action Model 92 Rossi last year. It's rear sight was not tight in its dovetail and windage would shift. I put a NOE aftermarket scout mount on it (the barrel is drilled in tapped for this type of mount) and a 2.5 power pistol scope and have been happy.

Hey, since you sprang for the Uberti revolver, you may want to consider stretching for one of their 1873 rifles. I purchased a Winchester Model 1873 (Miroku) .38/.357 last summer and it is a fantastic firearm. I understand that the Uberti rifles have similarly high quality control.

Here is a tube-full of .357s (11) I fired from it at 50 yards, offhand on its first outing last summer:

I have my heroine get out of a jam with a rifle just like this in my next novel (still in edit).

I hope it's not just good luck, but two friends of mine have recently bought identical 16" SS 357 r92's and they both worked very well and had zero problems. Even the loading gate worked fine, and that was a problem in most if not all short barreled guns due to them using the same spring in the magazine for all the guns, regardless of the barrel length. Their two guns have a shorter spring, so there are no issues loading them. Even the dreaded "slice your finger" loading gate port edge was smooth on them. These two guns had just come in from Brazil, so it's probably not going to be applicable for older stock.

Even if you do get a "bad" one, there are plenty of youtube videos showing you how to fix all the issues. Do them and you'll learn some stuff about guns and it's really hard to mess up doing it, so it's a good thing in some ways. I've personally never seen one that was really bad. Rough? Oversprung? Sure, but the basics seem to be OK, so just a little bit of work does miracles.

The Rossi 92's are considerably better made than prior to their being bought by Taurus, they still need to be disassembled and the rough finish parts stoned smooth, the plastic follower replaced with a metal one and the idiotic safety hung on the bolt removed and replaced with a special plug that is available.
The one i purchased has had these corrections and became a fun plinker . The older Rossi's were a total mess and at least one man makes his living repairing thém and cleaning up interior problems on the new ones.

You might want to add an "e" to those drugs. lol

On topic, I've had a Rossi 92 for about 1 1/2 years. Fine rifle that just require smoothing, which came through use.
