Taurus PT1911 Cust. serv. SUCKS!!!

Hi folks,
Just a heads up on how Taurus will treat you with defective parts. Over 3 months ago, a friend of mine hands me his brand new Taurus PT1911 stainless and wants to accurize it cause it will not hold groups. It was a little loose but nothing major. I tightened the rails and did a trigger job and then to my amazement, I found the barrel had a rather weird dent in its left side about 1.5" foward the barrel and it took a turn to the left after the oddly shaped crease/dent. I sent the barrel (serial numbered) to Taurus figuring a new one was a no brainer. I heard nothing for 4 weeks, so I called and they said they have the bad barrel and will send out a new barrel once there back order on them is filled. Now, over 3 months latter, and they claim they still have no barrel to send me. <...> is the 1911 not some what popular? Its a shame cause the gun its self was not a bad piece of work over all and with the Ed Brown barrel in the gun it shoots decent groups.
Has any one else been left hanging like this by Taurus?

I've been around here a few years and I'd say this thread has been started several times!! As a matter of fact, I'm surprised it hasen't been locked.

I once sent a gun back to Taurus (it was a PT911...not a PT1911)

It came back 4 weeks later...fixed...and with a sweet trigger job I didn't ask for.

Maybe I was just lucky...

I have a PT1911 and have small issues since round 300, But to this day is my carry gun 75% of the time.
I swore to myself id never send it to Taurus for work and id do it myself even if i had to buy my own parts.
Ive replaced the mag with a Wilson 47d when FTFeed issues started at 300 rounds.
At 500 i took the whole gun down for inspection and cleaning and lost the firing pin plunger spring. Thats when i found out the slides internals dont match 80 series parts. They change them even so slightly so you have to buy a WHOLE Taurus slide parts package or replace it all with standard parts, They will not interchange.
Round 800 i started having FTE issues and found it to be a peened up extractor which i could file clean and used that way until i could replace it with another HD Wilson part.
At that point i had to remove the series 80 firing pin safety as i wasn't about to replace the rest of the slide parts except what i needed out of necessity.

At that point it needed a HD firing pin spring with no FP safety installed, While i did that i put in a 22# Wilson recoil spring.

My gun is at about 1200 rounds now and shoots like a gun 2x its price. I learned how to work on 1911's in the process also. The Thin blueing Taurus uses is almost worn off completely in spots making it even sexier

Thats my PT1911's story.
But ive owned another that was perfect and never had an issue.
The big thing is you just have to be lucky your parts are in stock in Miami and if they aren't its a long boat ride to Brazil.

After those 2 guns ive done my best to stay away from Taurus as i know i cant work on every gun like i can the 1911 as parts just aren't available.
I do like the new TCP its a sweet little pocket gun, I may buy someday.

But i suggest you just install your own barrel and write the old one off.
Sometimes you get lucky and Taurus has your parts and can get your gun back in a decent amount of time, If they dont have them 6 months is not unheard of.

That sounds rather a hard statement to prove and a bashing of Taurus.
But from what i seen in my 1911 id agree.
My extractor was peened on 3 sides from being too soft and out of adjustment.
But not only that i have a worn spot where my firing pin saftey plunger used to sit on the bottom of the slide that has completely worn threw from rubbing with the frame and i had to clean it up with a file so it wont cause the slide to hang up with its sharp edges hanging out while it should be a solid wall of steel instead of a hole.

You have not done an internet search then. A little time will bring up a short's load of unacceptableness. But you'll find a few good reviews too.

Second thread with this statement. How about some proof? Metal is easy to check for hardness. As for being poor manufacturers, I suppose that this would extend to Springfield?

Imbel in brazil makes good steel. they make SA's guns. they do not make taurus'.

Why would someone send just a barrel back and not the whole pistol. I have a old 22 taurus revolver that started to miss fire. Sent it back. In 3 weeks it was back at my house with some trigger group parts changed and works great, again. Just 3 weeks. Always gona be some whinners. I have also a old 38 snuby and it has a trigger S&W could only wish for, 25 years old and never had a problem with it.

I cant personally testify to the softness of the PT1911's soft steel in the slide and extractor both.
An extractor should be pretty darn hard steel and not get peened up by brass casings.
My slide was worn threw most likley by the hardened steel ejector in the frame rubbing it.

Im not saying its junk, Just softer than i would expect.
I still carry that gun as a ccw and trust my life to it, So if it was so bad i would be an idiot to carry it.
Ive also had another PT745 that was flawless all the way up to the day i traded it in.

No company is perfect, And its a well known fact that if Miami doesn't have your part in stock you will be waiting a loooong time before you see your part of gun again.
Thats why i buy my own and fix it myself if possible and i don't while about it either.
I just state my experience.
I still like Taurus and would buy from them again, Just not another PT1911 due to some of the issues i had to fix on mine.

Thanks to all the replys. I polished up the extractor tip but didnt see any ware since its so new. I'll tell the owner to keep an eye out for week extraction/ejection incase the extractor starts to loose position/tension.
I did a search here on PT 1911 and nothing came up on this particular issue. Some other forums I will not use. Too many bully pulpit kingdoms livin large in em. So far THR seems decent like DasFriek to take the time to share his experiance along with the others.

PS, HardLuk1, a custom target barrel was part of the job possibilities and after seeing the crap stocker, I knew a factory replacement was a iffy situation for good groups. Brownells had a new Ed Brown barrel w/bushing at my house in 4 days. Scot (the owner) would be p-o-ed if I recomended sending the whole gun back and still be waiting to get it back 3 months latter because they have no barrels in stock.
you know its too bad for Taurus. I have a 3" M94 SS 9 shot 22 DA revolver I bored out to 22mag and realy like it. Its my wifes home defence gun.
