I just purchased a Raging Bull in 45 LC (NOT 454). I was hoping to shoot +P loads for hunting with it. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge or experience with these loads in this gun? Most Colt 45 loads are either 'cowboy' strength which is not good enough for me for hunting.

They make the raging Bull in 454 so I don't think a little 45 Colt +P is going to bother it. The RB series is the best of the Taurus line. Shot a 454 of a friends not at all bad for recoil. Take that thing hunting and show us the pictures of your efforts.

Thanks for the input. I feel better about it now.

I ordered some Buffalo Bore 45LC 260GR JHP heavy +P loads before I was sure. The gun looks like it will handle them but some woman at Taurus USA (who didn't even know they made a colt 45 Raging Bull after looking online at their website) said 'NO, only their 38 SPLs can shoot +P loads.' I asked if she was sure and she confirmed. It was pretty obvious she had absolutely no clue *** she was talking about.:banghead:

RB in 45 Colt

I too have a Taurus RB in 45 Colt. I called Taurus about it a couple of years ago and they denied ever making them. After a couple of weeks they admitted to it. I don't know how hot a load it will take, but it ought to be fine with the Buffalo Bore loads.

It's a six holer. Generally the weak point in a revolver cylinder is the web between chambers, not the bolt notch as every one thinks. Five holes make for thicker webs. If it were the bolt notch the simple answer would be the Dan Wesson setup where the notch is well off center.

I shot the Heavy 45 Colt +P Buffalo Bore 260 gr. J.H.P. (1450 fps / M.E. 1214 ft. lbs.).

It does shoot them just fine. Thanks for the input!

I wouldn't go TOO hot; the .454 Casull RB has a lot more steel in the cylinder (5-shot), whereas the .44 mag and apparently your .45 colt holds 6. Whether Garrett or BB is ok - I dunno - probably yes, but not sure.

Also, FWIW, the Taurus website no longer shows the RB in .454 casull, just .41 mag and .44 mag. I guess the casull is discontinued, for some odd reason.
