Pics forthcoming, but the title is pretty self-explanatory - the magazine release broke in two and fell out of the frame.

I realize it's a Taurus, but has anyone ever heard of this particular part breaking on any firearm before?

I'm on hold with CS right now. I'll post their response when it comes in.

Here's the picture. Still on hold.

"Wow" -My thoughts exactly.

Just heard that I've got to pay to send it in. $50 shipping for a $3 part. I'm going to check with my gun store to see if they can ship it USPS for me.

Kind of bummed that I have to pay to ship it.

PS - They won't ship the part, it's on their "restricted" list. It's a metal part and a spring. Not hard to replace. And not hard to break, or so I thought. Oh, well.

I got it when they first came out: SN 023XXX. It has probably no more than 400 rounds through it. I've only used the 2 factory mags that came with it.

It has been a reliable shooter until now. It had one problem out of the box where the slide catch wouldn't stay caught. They re-machined the notch on the slide which fixed the problem.

Other than the fact that I naturally point low with it, it's been a serviceable gun - no jams, misfires, light strikes, etc. Decent trigger, conceals extremely well.

I guess the MIM bug has bitten. I thought they had worked the kinks out of their MIM process - I guess that I was wrong.

Thanks for the time and round count info. I wonder if this is one of the parts that was weak on early models and that they fixed on later guns. If so, I'm sure you will get the newer design part with their repair.

Jim

I'm guessing you're right, although I'm not sure that I'd ever heard of a broken mag release until now.

Well, I guess it's some comfort to know I'm not alone.

I'm glad you like the pic. Kind of looks like I'm holding a dead bug in my hand.

My TCP did that on its first full mag when I got it. I called Taurus and they mailed me the part in a couple days. I installed my self. Just FYI.

I think I'll try again to get them to send me one - they told me that they wouldn't ship it because it's on their restricted parts list.

So an update:

I called Taurus back, trying to explain to them how requiring me to pay $50 to ship my gun back to them to replace a $7 part just because they placed it on the "restricted parts list" didn't make any sense to me. This didn't persuade them.

However, they honed in on the fact that I had sent them the gun less than 90 days beforehand on an unrelated issue, and sent me a shipping label.

Taurus now has my gun, and I received an automated email acknowledging receipt and stating the standard turnaround time of 6 weeks for repair. I don't think it'll take that long, but I don't expect to get it before 2-4 weeks.

Having said all of that, I'm happy to not have to pay freight. I would have preferred to just have them ship me the part, as replacing a magazine release and spring isn't rocket science, but I'm satisfied that I didn't have to pay another $50 to ship a $200 gun for repair.

I an email from Taurus, as well a letter, saying that they had received my gun, and the repair time would be 6 weeks.

I just checked their repair status page, and my gun is done! Waiting on them now to ship it.

Can't complain!

Believe it or not, it shipped today! Never thought I'd say this, but good job, Taurus!

Got it Friday. Looks ok, planning on taking it out to shoot on Thursday.
